Currently I have the Nikon D300; however, I hope to have D800 one day. So, at the moment I looking for suggestions/recommendation on a nice speed light. I like to have a speed light that I shoe mount or put it on a tripod/stand and remotely trigger by the camera from a different angle or spot. Any suggestion/recommendation is much appreciated.

My SB-600 has done everything I've ever needed and it works on commander mode (remote) and like new used are a great deal. Are you looking for general purpose or something specific?

I guess for now, it's general use. Things I like use are for events that are held during the night with low lighting and/or for outside use when it's cloudy or under heavy shade.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'll take into consideration when I finally decide to purchase one. What other accessories for the speedlight do I need? As I said before, I usually take portrait photos of events with low light or sometimes now light at all. I saw some people have this thing like a round cone of some sort covering the light. For portrait photos, I like to make the skin tones a bit softer rather than harsh, so , what accessories would give me that look from a speed light?

So, does this mean it will work with my current D300?

Yes it will. However, I will suggest you get the SB-700. It comes with all the accessories you'll need, and it works with commander mode. It also has a Remote Mode, and it's idiot proof. I will ALWAYS recommend the SB-700, as it's a fantastic speedlight. Much easier to use than the SB-600, too, and lighter than the SB-910.

like most things in life it comes down to money ..if you can afford Nikon so much the better as you are buying a system ..600 and above will all function in command mode etc its all to do with them being coded and talking to one another....If you want a good gun you can drop and not cry the YN468 will do ITTL Manual and S! S2 ie sync as a remote flash but not in iTTL mode...The YN565 which is a copy of the 910 in most respects will do everyting EXCEPT act as a remote commander on top of your camera,,,but it will take remote commands from the built in flash ( dont think the D3200 does that ..check your manual ..lost mine)

Personally I got YN 465.565 and I never use them as I have two SB400s which sit on flash flippers ...the big guns are too far from the lens and cause bad shadows ..I am currently working on fitting The SB400 upside down to get them closer to the lens ...about 1 inch away.

Many thanks for all the responses. I've finally decided to go with the SB-910 since it's about a $100 more than the SB-700. But I still have not received any confirmation of a shipping date -- I hope this online store is legit.

Again, many thanks for all your suggestions and opinions. I valued it greatly.
