Hurricane Sandy knocked out power but I'm back

I'm sure I wasn't missed (lol) but I've been MIA for 2 weeks due to the power being knocked out by Hurricane Sandy.

Long Island was really hit hard and many lost property, not to mention the almost 50 lives lost.

Power came back on this morning and I'm just getting my life back together, including my two businesses that lost an enormous amount of money.

It's not like I didn't realize it but it's amazing how much we take the simple things in life for granted and how dependent and reliant we are on modern conveniences and technology.

Welcome back! I didn't have power for a good week due to a tree coming down on my power lines. I just got my internet/cable back yesterday (was borrowing).

I know what you mean, my daughter still has no power in Old Bethpage, my sister in law in Levittown,my brother in law a few blocks from here in Valley Stream, but life goes on, one has to adapt & overcome, then there's the LIRR what can I say at this point that hasn't already been screamed at them for 13 days now.Tomorrow will be 2 weeks without power for the people, I fortunately got my power back after only 7 days this time around so I count ourselves lucky as no ones house was destroyed & we still have our cars so we share what we have. Even the gas lines seem to be easing a little since the governor finally used his head & started odd/even days.
One would think that we never had a hurricane hit us before the way LIPA/LIRR was so unprepared.

Recovery has been slow and I've been very busy helping bring back some smiles and normalcy to those that are still struggling. After my power was restored and I got things back to normal I teamed up with a woman and we're working to offer free products and services to those that are displaced, homeless and trying to make ends meet as we enter the holiday season.

I've been doing portraits for families, kids and pets to bring people together, see some smiles and relieve some of the sadness. These people need all the help they can get and it's been incredible to see happy faces, even if just for an hour or so. Everyone is getting digital images vouchers towards prints but they're under no obligation to order any prints.

I am still working on other projects and have clients but most of my time and energy is going to those that haven't recovered and probably won't for many months.

HI all,

After doing some portraits for the victims of hurricane Sandy and shooting a benefit concert, I'm finally back at my studio and filling up the schedule book again. We brought some smiles to a lot of faces and gave them a few hours to escape from the nightmare and have a good time. The kids were the best. Very rewarding work.
