Stoking up on candles and charging batteries as i type. My street always loses power first, it's really weird. We will have no power, yet the streets east and west of us will. But i am prepared to have a candle light sandwich dinner, lol :)

Better grab somw blankets and propane heaters as well. You may be out of power for a while.

Thanks. Not so worried about it being cold as i am worried about all the trees we have around us. This is what we expect: Alerts: Montréal Island area - The Weather Network

THe temperature is going to be cool to warm. I survived the ice storm we had here back in the 90's. I remember sleeping in my parka! lol:) It's just a walk in the park;)

There is a saying, "never under estimate Mother Nature." I know what you mean about the ice storms. We were without power for 15 days.

I have a large sealed bin with disaster (hurricane) supplies like a propane stove, fuel, water containers, lights, glow sticks, candles, first aid, crank radio, and lots of other stuff. It is a permanent stash that is available whenever needed.

Most coastal Floridians begin to stock up on canned foods in June. The officials say you should have a 3-day supply of food, etc. Most of us will have a few weeks worth of disaster foods. Come December, if there had been no need (as in the last 5 years) to use the food stocks, we just use it throughout the non-hurricane season months.

The problems that occurred with Katrina would not have been nearly as disastrous in Florida, simply because we're used to preparing. With the weather trends, I believe the NE should begin thinking in these terms.

I hope everyone is out of harms way and the storm turns out to sea.

I'm near Philly. It's raining pretty hard right now along with a 20-30mph sustained wind. We expect 60-85 gusts later in the day. eek!

FYI, this is a current pic of Seaside Heights, NJ where Jersey Shore is filmed:

I have a feeling that boardwalk isn't going to be there much longer.

I just read that the HMS Bounty was lost in the storm and sunk off the Carolinas. 2 men are missing and 14 were rescued. Sandy is being touted as the biggest storm to ever hit the US.

There's going to be enough damage with Sandy being only a catagory 1 storm. Seems as though they would have not gone to the open sea with the HMS Bounty with a hurricane approaching. I think they were trying to go around the storm and head for Florida.

I'm originally from Philly. I have family all over the NE and SE coasts. My heart goes out to Nikonite East coasters. Be careful and stay safe.

Here in the Virginia Mountains, I'm guessing we'll have a rain event with gusting winds no worse than those in a thunderstorm. I live far enough off the eye path and on the "calmer" side of the storm.
We'd already done our two week grocery shopping trip on Friday, so that was out of the way. I did, however refill the tank on my Weber Grill, so at least I won't have to eat cold sandwiches. Historically in my area, we seldom lose power for more than an hour or two so that is just a precaution. Besides... I could really use a good steak right now.

crap, Atlantic City is getting pounded. For those of you who are familiar with the area, there is not a lot of beach between (at least not as much as Wildwood) the boardwalk/casinos.

Yep. I was in AC a few years ago and stood on the boardwalk and thought about how the narrow beach would allow for fast flooding. Thanks for the pic.
