Terrence Malick - amazing movies for the student of photography

The Dude
I just watched the latest Terrence Malick movie "The Tree of Life" and once again I was blown away by the most amazing and beautiful images ever put together in one movie. Terrence Malick has one of the most incredible eyes for images, each one of them would be a prized photograph but they come one after another after another. If movies are like books then Malick's movies are true prose. You could easily stop the movie at about any point and you would have a printable photo.

If you haven't had a chance to see any Malick movies, here's a small list of some of his better ones. And not only are his movies amazing eye candy, the stories beneath them are deep and intense. I've found that people either absolutely love his work, like I do, or they hate it. Not many people ride the fence when it comes to Terrence Malick.

Anyways, here is a list of some of his best movies. If you haven't seen any of them you'll be amazed at the beauty this man finds in the every day world. And in HD his images are just spectacular.

The Tree of Life

The New World

The Thin Red Line

Days of Heaven

In my opinion "The Thin Red Line" is one of his best. He artfully contrasts the horror of war against the stoic beauty of the south sea islands. And the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer makes the movie a true work of art. And the number of stars he's able to get in his movies, even for cameo parts, says a lot about the respect this man possesses in the industry.
