New salvo in the Full-Frame camera war : EOS 6D

Both Nikon and Canon appear to be two separate companies but in truth they aren't really competing against one another. For instance, take a look at their lens focal lengths and apertures, 24-70mm f2.8, 70-20mm f2.8, etc., and look the price points of each lens, all within 2 to 3% of each other. In addition, look at their individual camera specs, very similar to one another with the D800 as the stand out. I don't think these similarities are mere coincident.

But you might be right about my terminology, the word I was looking for may be Keiretsu instead of Zaibatsu. Maybe I should use English and say their both in cahoots with each other.

Over at the DPReview forum the 6D is getting slammed! The first hands on review says it is lackluster too.

I think both Canon and Nikon dumbed down both of these cameras and priced them about 300-500 to high. I bet you money mid to late next year maybe even sooner they will be cheaper.

We may want to consider who is reviewing the cameras though. If it is someone who uses FX cameras all the time, they maybe expecting more than what a budget FX can offer. I have looked at the specs and yeah, it's no big deal except for the fact that it's full frame. Also, lets not forget that this is an "entry level" FX. I say give it a some years as the upgrades come out (D601, 602 for example) and i think you will see a more refined camera and as you said, probably at a lower cost. Just my thoughts

Nikon has won this one hands down. Just looking at the specs and what you get for your money (both are the same price for the body), you are getting more from Nikon. You would think that Canon would lower it's price a little, knowing that their Camera is inferior spec wise.

I doubt it Rick. If there ever was a time to jump from Canon to Nikon this camera would be the time. As the shooter points out the D600 is way mo betta...

Hopefully this will keep the Canon folks from jumping into a D600, so we won't have supply issues!
No supply issues played with one today. Great camera very much like the D7000 except not as squarish feels great in the hand balances very well with the 24-85VR lens. Rick if you hold one you wouldn't let go. I almost bought it came very very close.

Good to hear!, as soon as I sell some of my Dx glass, I'll be on my way to the store.

News today is that Canon and Panasonic are closing their factories in China due to the crisis between China and Japan over some tiny islands. Things are heating up in the South China Sea...imagine if China and Japan get into it. No mo cameras for us. :(

Wonder if Glenn has anything pertinent here???
