Lauren88 at 10:24 PM August 26, 2012 So let me get this straight, a photographer knowingly disregarded the saftey measures put in place by park officials and approached a 600 pound wild grizzley bear in the middle of its own territory at less than 100 feet and was killed because of his own stupidity and disregard for his own safety and the park service killed the bear for it, really? really? wow life is fair.

That seems to be just about the strength of it

This is a lot like the guy smoking around a severe gas leak. It's called a "self correcting problem".

Sad for the family, but inevitable. Remember the photographer swept out to sea in California after the Japan tsunami?

He ignored his own safety for the sake of a picture also. The camera got some great memories, but the families LOOSE theirs!

We have an old saying here about Grizzlies...

"You'd rather sandpaper a tiger's ass in a locked phone booth than piss off a grizzly!"

:)

It is truly sad this photographer lost his life. But, caution should of been taken.Distance is important. If your in bear country how about pepper spray? My next question is why on earth did they kill the bear. This person was in the bears domain. The bear is and was acting as wild animals do. This bear should not have been killed.

When a bear has the taste for human flesh it must be destroyed. If not destroyed, then instead of fearing humans and running away, it will see us as just another item on the menu and actively hunt us.

Again, this is pretty much the start and end of it. It seems people are just not responsible for their own actions any more. To initiate a saying, i guess the whole world wants to " stick their head in the Lions mouth " and still be safe. Trouble is, the Lion doesn't know our rules, and why should it. It aint human.

But still, if it gets out of line, kill the mutha

I don't buy into the, "once he gets a taste of human flesh... it must be destroyed... it will see us as just another item on the menu." Sorry, but he already saw the guy as an item on the menu BEFORE he (the bear) got a taste of human flesh. A grizzly bear is a wild animanl, a carnivore (like us) and has hunting instincts hardwired into him/her. I am thinking that the bear saw this guy as a threat to his domain and/or family and attacked. This is the reason why the park tells everyone to stay 300 yards away from bears. But this guy was 50-100 yards away! Let's loop back to the, "he will see us as a menu item.... once he gets a taste of human flesh." Why do you think that the park tells people to stay 300 yards away from Grizzly bears???? Because the bear already sees us as a menu item if we get to close to their stomping grounds. Sorry, but i don't agree with what they did to the bear. When will us stupid human beings stop taking wildlife for granted? To get that close to a 600 pound grizzly is just asking for trouble. If i was stupid enough to do that, i would be smart enough not go with anything less than a .44 magnum, .500 magnum would be preferable. .500 magnum = instant grizzly bear stop sign :):)

For those of you who read the article, you probably noticed that they wrote that the bear was keeping grounds on the human remains around his food cache. They probably had to shoot it to get close in hope of finding remains for the funeral… Maybe?

Yes, you are right Marcel. Though, all to often, the animal gets destroyed. It gets hunted down and killed. I think what people are trying to point out is, us human beings tend to forget where we are stepping foot sometimes. You only have to look out west in BC, Alberta and see how housing developments are encroaching on wilderness. Then, people are surprised when they have coyote running through their backyard or when mountain lions have their chihuahua for hors doeurves! Respect mother nature and mother nature will not bite you in the ass. What they could have done with the bear is, tranquilize it and tag it to monitor it's movements. By knowing where it is, they could warn the public not to go in that area - on top of the warning to not go within 300 yards of a bear anyhow. It is jsut a very harsh punishment for a wild animal who has no idea of the rules in the "human" world.

Thanks for the warning , i'll avoid it. I get pretty tired of gun toting freaks the world over, wiping nature off the face of the planet simply coz its got a face and a few claws.

What makes me laugh into my cornflakes is how " sporting " they think this is. If they were really tough " hunters " they'd tackle it without weapons that can kill from a safe distance.

I do not agree with this bear being killed. As I stated before we are intruding on their country. What was this guy thinking.
