It seems like a lot of complaints were not responded to, lowering the rating considerably. I'm curious how many of those 49 warranty complaints were because of issues with gray market products that weren't covered under warranty.

I also wonder how many of the 116 problems with products are because of user error or focusing issues.

Are you telling us that it is usually user error and not the camera?? Ohhhh, the horror!!! Yeah, read your manuals people. The grade is certainly not reflective of the overall experience that one would could get with Nikon. In a way, it's a "false positive" and should not be taken as a serious rating for Nikon. Only much smaller companies would even be affected by this.
 
I give the BBB an F. A while back I bought new bedroom furniture. The set was close to $4,000 (Which is a lot to me) They told me that if I paid cash (not check or debit card) they would give me a 10% discount. I did and got a proper bill of sale. They had to order the furniture and said it would take a couple of weeks. At two weeks the story was the night stand was backordered, at 3 weeks the bed frame was backordered, well you get the gist. This went on for weeks and weeks, I was losing my cool at this point and finally there was an entire new staff. They told me the last owner had left in the middle of the night and had never even placed my order and many other people orders. Anyway back to the BBB..... I filed a complaint and they did not do a thing. I had to threaten bodily harm to the manager of the store to get any results. I finally got my furniture and the BBB called me and ask if it was settled. I told them that I had gotten my furniture but wanted to leave the bad report on record but they refused to do so even though this company I found out later had done this scam before and gotten away with it. I don't trust the BBB for anything.

186 complaints over 3 years! For that region the sales volume over 3 years would be massive! Would probably equal at least a 99% satisfaction rate :)
