Too Hot!!

Today is definitely an editing/culling day. Woke up this morning and the temps were still in the 80s (F). The local thermometer is now at 99 F and there isn't a cloud of significance in the sky. The heat index is reported as 108-110. And I know some of you are experiencing even hotter, uncomfortable conditions.

Definitely not a good day to go out with a camera. Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

After experiencing several days in the 90's with high humidity, we dropped to the low-to-mid 70's for a high today. Tonight we're supposed to go down to 54 degrees!

Grateful for enjoying a cool breeze through the screen door during June. That wouldn't have happened in any other state I lived in along the Gulf.
I hope you get a break soon, @Whiskeyman

How are the Mos-Quitos in your area now? When we lived in North Dakota, they would attack you if you weren't quick enough. If you fell asleep outside, you might end up needing a unit or two of whole blood!

I expect the swarms are hatching about now after all the storms recently. DEET is considered an essential nutrient around here.

I do construction work, sometimes hard work, sometimes in hotter temperatures than that. And you cannot go out and take some pictures?

I've worked in hotter temperatures than that, too. But now that I'm in my sixties and don't have to, I don't. Especially when the humidity is as high as it is here. I lived in Sacramento in the late 1980s and it was my first exposure to "dry heat" and it wasn't as unpleasant to be outside without the humidity. Where it got me into trouble was that I didn't realize how much I was getting dehydrated until it was way-way late. (An old Survival School saying I remember was "Ration your sweat, not your water.")

As far as not taking photos around here when it's that hot, yeah, I'm wimping out somewhat, but fighting the heat, humidity and the tourists is not worth it. I'm more selective about my subjects, too; and if they aren't cooperating, the diminished returns just aren't worth it.

Yep, if you are taking pictures for fun, and you aren't having fun because of the weather............

I have that issue with my daughter. She is very sensitive to heat. I have a much higher tolerance to it, but when it's in the 90s and the humidity is high, I'm not having much fun either. Yeah, it didn't bother me nearly as much when I was younger.

I remember that saying from survival school myself. Of course, I went through in January, and the first night in the field, it got down to -17. We didn't worry much about sweat. I was a little difficult to stay hydrated, though. We weren't thirsty, and by the time a container of water was done with the purification tablets, very little was still liquid. One of our guys had to be hauled in to the hospital for IV fluids. They brought him back out later that day.
