Looking to buy a used Nikon D500

Since the D500 is now discontinued my hunt is on for a used D500. I live in Canada and have been looking online, their are some available on kijiji but to me this is not my preferred route. Normally I would only buy camera gear from a photo store not an electronics store. Would it be reasonable to just buy a used one from United States such as B&H or Keh. My guess is their will but duty and likely a high delivery charge but this may be the only way to get one. As far as repairs if ever needed would Nikon Service Canada work on the camera at my cost of course or is this something they don't do with out of country purchases. Thanks for any advice and info on the 2 camera stores listed.

Here is 2 listed at B&H, same price but one can be shipped to Canada and one cannot. Whats up with this?

Unless I'm reading these wrong, you have posted B&H ads for NEW D500's. Their used ones seem to be priced similar to the KEH ad you copied. Not sure why no shipping to Canada on the first one, but if I had to guess it's because that unit is out of stock so there's no shipping anywhere. But that's just a guess. You could message them and ask - they are really great with customer service, in my experience.

FWIW, Adorama has a used one for $899 (US), and according to their Shipping FAQ page they do ship to Canada.

Good luck getting one - it's an awesome beast!

The second one lists it as imported. That means it is a grey market body not made in the USA. You'd have to call B&H to find out the country where it was made. Unless it was manufactured in Canada, I highly doubt a Nikon warranty would be honored by Nikon Canada. That said ... B&H has extended warranties available for purchase, but whether one is available for a grey market body, I have no idea. If an extended warranty is offered (which is usually one that includes coverage for drops and spills), the warranty would be an additional purchase and would probably require being sent back to the USA for servicing. @wev is one who had some type of drops and spills warranty (I think from B&H) and had his D500 replaced with a new one after several failed service attempts. But wev is from the USA.

@Marcel - do you know of any Canadian camera shops that are legit and that might have a decent preowned D500 in stock? Marcel is from Canada.

You could try Henry"s camera store. They do have a pre-owned department. There is also Gosselin photo that can ship and have warranty. I'm sure there are other stores that can find one for you.

I have only bought a few things from MPB - a D3100 and a couple of lenses - but am very pleased with their customer service. They took time and answered all of my questions and the camera was in excellent shape. They even state the number of photos taken.

They currently have some D500s, but they are all "high-mileage", with 50K - 100K photos and listed as only "Good" condition. But, if you watch, they will probably get in an "Excellent" or even "Like New" with low miles. Patience pays off.

I have dealt with MPB on several occasions, both buying and selling. Most recently, I traded in a D750 and several FX lenses. In return, I got a barely used D500 body (shutter count = 4745, US serial number) in the original box with a full set of accessories and manuals as well as some cash for significantly less than the price of a new item. As pnomanikon has said, "Patience pays off."

I spoke with B&H today. The imports are fully covered by them for a year. If need be, they would be repaired only by an authorized Nikon shop. If they can not, B&H will replace or refund the full amount. I also purchased the Square Trade 4 year coverage, so if anything happens after the in-house, the same rules apply -- fix or full refund. I'll have worn it out by that time anyway.

From what I understand Nikon USA will not repair a grey market camera. I have bought used cameras & lenses from MPB, KEH & B&H. All of these companies are top notch.
