Nikon Zs must be good

If you look at the trend on youtube many of the vids are knocking Nikon,i think a lot of them see their own brand (the one that drops them enough backhanders) under threat when Nikon has a bit more time invested in it.
The biggest offender is phony Southdown, he is telling folks Nikon should stick with DSLRs, another who is just catching on clickbait titles will get more views than solid content says Nikon will be gone by 2021.

I think some of these would like the only brand to be the one they use, if it happens then i cant see any remaining brand putting much money or effort in to development, very short sighted of them.

I think they have a real winner with the Z50 and it's probably a marketing test. A lot of people dont return things or cancel subscriptions when they should. Nikon's biggest problem is being 5 years late to the party. The Nikon 1 system got me hooked on mirrorless, but I had to go to another brand for a larger sensor back then and many did the same (evident even in this small community).

Nikon has taken a big leap and I think the wider mount can lead to some amazing optics if they can get some momentum in the market. The in body stabilization is decent, but they are behind with that also. IBIS and VR should sync and maintain 5 axis stabilization. I'm thinking this will be accomplished with the newer Z lenses at longer focal lengths.

Perhaps its like the preregistered car con, they go down as sales to increase apparent market share and dont get removed of sales if returned.

I think you are right @mikew and Rick M. Nikon has come out with an impressive product and the competition is trying to steer the conversation away from the camera by bashing the focus and card slot and they have convinced some talking heads to play along.

I just watched Tony Northrup's video about Nikon's upcoming release of the D780, and his thoughts on why they would release a new high end DSLR after making such a push to switch people over to the Z system.

I thought it was quite interesting. If you'd like to view it, it's right here.

I watched that video a few days ago. I get sucked into that click bait. Tony has pretty much lost my respect following some very poor reviews of the Z products, including a "best menu settings" that he did that just did not offer the best recommendations. As Mike said, Nikon has planned to support both DSLR and Mirrorless.

Just looking at the investment that they have made in the platform, including the new mount which blows everyone out of the water, it is clear that Nikon is n Mirrorless to stay.

I watched this video today and thought it was very interesting. I knew that the Z mount was the largest mount currently available in Full Frame and Crop Sensor. It also has the shortest flange distance. That explains in part why the native glass is so sharp even though it is not f1.4 or f1.2 glass.

I came across the video this week and I really thought it was a pretty interesting. It was kind of one of those light bulb moments for me. The video is 31 minutes but I think it is worth the time. Matt Irwin does a good job explaining the engineering side of the Z Mount. He also talks about the focus issues as well.

Thanks Danno, I'll give that video a click when I get a break tomorrow.

This agenda became very clear to me when the Canon mirrorless was launched. The Nikon Z's were brutalized on YouTube from day one. The Canon was pretty well received, even though these same people admitted that the Nikon was better! I do think the firmware updates have made a big difference in the product.

I agree that the firmware updates have made a BIG difference in the Z bodies. The sad part is that none of the talking heads have retested it and their original complaints are being parroted and still making people very reluctant to make the purchase. It is not a perfect camera, but it is a very good camera. The EVF and IBIS are amazing. One really cool feature to me is you can use ND filters to slow down water and using the EVF to focus and determine your shot with great confidence because the EVF gives you this What You See Is What You Get. It really has made it more fun for me to use. There is also a good channel on YouTube that does a good job sharing info.

The channel is Monochrome Memoir. Will, the owner of the channel is a working wedding photographer that uses the Z6 exclusively. I believe he ran 300K plus clicks through his Z6s in a year. He defines it in his 1 year review. He does not do Birds in Flight or Landscape much. He does wedding and things related to weddings, but If you have questions about a Z6 He has covered it or will if you ask. He has also purchased a Z50.
