So, i'm probably going to get a Z6 soon and I can see that I can get a way better deal online than from any of the local stores. I just want to know 2 things:

1) Which do you find better: Adorama or B&H?

2) I assume the prices shown are in US dollars so can I just convert the final amount to Canadian and know for sure that that's what I'm paying and that's it?

Thanks in advance guys.

1) I've bought and sold from both Adorama and B&H. Nothing against Adorama, but I prefer doing business with B&H. That's my personal opinion, but Im confident your transaction would be entirely satisfactory with either vendor.

2) I would contact your chosen vendor and inquire or you can wait and see if one of our Canadian Nikonites replies.

Are there are reasons in particular you prefer B&H?

I've purchased from both, and never had a problem with either. I've been a customer of B&H from before there was an internet actually, when I worked in Manhattan and could just walk to their store. One thing to note, if it's important to you: they are closed on Saturdays for religious reasons, and that includes not filling internet orders. If you order on Saturday, they will fill it on Sunday.

Good luck with the new camera!

I prefer B&H although I order from Adorama if what I want isn't available from B&H (but I also purchase from a local store that offers excellent customer service). When I ordered a new lens from Adorama years ago, it was missing the warranty card and warranty information. Adorama said it might have been a return that was put back on the shelf. A couple other smaller items I purchased from there also were questionable about whether they were previous returns (seals broken and scratches). B&H now charges sales tax but offers some type of credit card that compensates for the cost of the tax.

I too have bought from both Adorama and B&H. Overall I prefer B&H to Adorama because of the shipping support.

Adorama does a decent job with shipping support, and it is better than it was, but B&H is that much better. They have a system that clearly communicates what and when things will be shipping. They also have cameras in the shipping department to assure your package is put together correctly.

Adorama has not done as good a job letting me know when my things have shipped as effectively as B&H, but the communication is not as clear. As an example I bought a speed light from them and got a kit that included accessories and a bag to hold them. I got an email that said something was on back order but it was not clear as to what it was that was missing. I really did not know for sure as to what would be arriving and there was no information saying when it would be available.

These are things that are important to me. I still order from both, if they have the right deal. I just know what to expect. If the item is available from both places B&H will always get the order.

Both are good. Adorama sometimes has exceptional prices on Nikon refurbs. I'm not far away so regular shipping gets here overnight, its not worth driving into NYC. These two have been on my 'good' list since before the internet when I would need to call and order. Many places were not honest about what's in stock or there would be hard up-sells or baits. B&H was my number one for no games and Adorama a close number two. In the more recent internet years, both have been great although B&H shipped something one day late about 5 years ago, lol. It was a cyber Monday sale. Both have answered my email questions without issue.

One thing that could be a concern is the fact that if you buy from an american store, your Nikon will not be serviced by Nikon Canada. If you ever have warranty services you need, you'll have to ship it back to the States. This could be a problem when times comes to deal with customs (both ways).

I know it seems like you'd save a few bucks, but why not encourage a local business if you have one in your area? I know that when I had to have my Df sent in to Nikon Canada, my local store handled the shipping and the dealing with Nikon without cost. This is when it could be even less expensive on the long run to deal with a brick and mortar store near you.

Considering all official Nikon retailers have the same pricing, how is the deal that much better online than in person? Sales tax aside.

For personal reasons, I use neither of these stores any more. They are located in one of the states that I choose to not conduct business in. Yes there are others, too.

And as Marcel brought up, is the savings really worth the potential service and support problems you might encounter? I would think that there would be a couple of really good camera shops in Canada.

Tangentially, my recent purchases have been in person with a shop in Central Florida. I've gotten to know the owners very well. (I try to go at off-peak times so that we have time to visit and aren't rushed.) As a result, I've been given premiums from the store when I make camera body and lens purchases. It's one of their ways of rewarding me for repeat purchases from them, and is greatly appreciated by me.

I've purchased things from Henry's and I am in the USA - Henrys.com: Canada's Greatest Camera Store - Shop Online Today

If you have a local store, use them. If not, at least support the most local you can.
