So, I guess the price reflects the optical quality that you are supposed to be getting?
I read the process on the website.

Our friend Wendy, who has been MIA for a quite some time but is doing well, has been shooting some great images with her ball for year. She actually had won her local Kelby Walk with a ball photo.

is the photo that awesome or you do not see the arrow for the next picture to the right of the photo?
I had to open it in Firefox (instead of Chrome), and even then I had to shrink the window to 90% before I saw the arrow. I am at work, FWIW.

They are neat! I want one!

This site always costs me money. I got my lens ball yesterday. I think nikonpup works for Amazon. I'm not sure who posted them in our Nikonites Flickr group but someone did some nice photos of lens balls and infrared. I might try that. I just have to find that dang tutorial for adjusting the white balance to accommodate the IR spectrum.

One very important heads up with these things, be VERY careful using them in the sun. Why? Fire can happen - quickly. First time I used it I was out by a reservoir that had some great old dead wood around the edges from trees that had once stood tall where the water now is. I found a great crook in one of the fallen trees to put the ball, so I set it there and turned to grab my camera. As I turned back a second later I smelled smoke, and a second later saw it rising from under the ball. When I grabbed it there was a dime sized burn mark in the wood. I'm thinking that if I'd walked a couple yards away there would have been actual flames by the time I got back to it. So if it's sunny make sure you stick something underneath it to absorb the heat if you need to put it on anything flammable. And never just set it down somewhere outside.

Oh, and one more thing - it can leave a nasty burn on your palm in short order as well, so keep it on the shady side. :)

Oh, and one more one more thing - don't leave it on your desk if the sun can shine thru. Paper will burn even faster than a tree or your palm.

Please be careful looking through them as well. Yes, common sense I know, but accidents happen.

That's good to know! I have one in my Amazon Wish List and know it's only a matter of time before I get one. Thanks for the heads-up. Sorry you had that problem, Jake. Thanks for sharing the info.

So I too got one of these via Amazon, but I need to ask a question. The first thing I noticed when I held it up to look through was my reflection. How do you avoid that? It reminded me of the reflections you see in Christmas ball ornaments.

Or maybe mine is broken? :loyal: Just kidding. ;) (But serious about the reflection question).

the only time is see my reflection is when the background is dark, then i see a very weak reflection. Do you have any weird occult blood in your family? :)) for a neat effect hold you ball up in front of a mirror.

There are several lens balls available on amazon, all different sizes and prices. I was thinking of getting an 80mm ball 3.15" and try this out with a 40mm micro lens. Which ball would you guys suggest for photo quality?
