Seems like yesterday but it was many years ago.

Monthly photo magazines with tons of super small print ads in the back for photo stores

Spiratone - camera stuff importer

One of my favorite internet web sites, and not that long ago (this guy visited and photographed interesting camera (phone/mailorder) stores.

Seems like lots of folks had a tiny camera business, maybe as a subsidiary of their carpet cleaning business.

Not only camera stores, but how about real shoe stores. Real hardware stores (where if you need 3 screws, 3 nuts and 3 washers you could buy them, not a package of 2 or 12 of each! The list could go on and on. Heck, before long you won't even be able to walk into a real grocery or department store.

We have 2 real hardware stores here in my small town. The employees actually are able to help you when you go in.

I'm lucky to live where I do. We have a great local camera store, Mike's, that has been in Boulder for something like 50 years. We have a REAL hardware store that has virtually every size of bolt, nut or screw you can imagine. Further, they have guys on the floor that can find you the exact item you need in very little time. I go into a chain grocery store and the people working there usually can't tell me what aisle ketchup is in. :)
