Just to clarify: Google Drive itself is not disappearing...
The Google Drive desktop-application (used for uploading/synch'ing files from your PC/Mac to Google Drive) is what's going away.
If you use Google Drive in your browser nothing, really, will be changing.

I'm worried what would happen to the almost 7k photos I have on Flickr if Yahoo decided to kill it.

Hopefully those aren't your only copies. This is one reason I consider the clouds in cloud storage are dark, nasty, storm clouds.
Exactly, although I have no way to know which of my backed up photos I've chosen to upload to Flickr. I guess it doesn't really matter anyway

If they pack in or want money all my posted ones are backed up and they are only the jpeg versions for posting,i would try to find a way to download the lot in one go to one folder though just out of interest.
I have no idea what the Google thing is about as i dont use it, i only posted it in case it was important to any one.

All of my Nikon and Sony pics are backed up on local hard drives, but I don't back up my phones very often. All of those phone pics and videos get automatically backed up to Flickr. Once that started, I got pretty lazy about hooking my phone up to the PC to make local backups.
