Have a week off next week ,so me and the missus might drive out to Colorado. Probably around Colorado Springs . Anyone live around there or familiar with the area?
We'll have about 4 or 5 days to spend out there so we can make a few short side trips as well.

After a little more consideration, we decided that we'll make our base in Loveland,CO and do daily trips into Rocky Mountain National Park.

The park will be nice, now. Elk bugling, colors are already starting to change up high. Sprague Lake is a good spot for moose. (NEVER any guarantees on moose, of course.) Not too many touristas this time of year.

Thanks Woody. What part of the state are you in?

Don't do what my son and I did about 10 years ago.

One evening after dinner, still some daylight left, we drove south on the interstate just to see what was out there.

Quickly got bored since it is just flat farmland and decided to turn back, next two exits were closed for some reason then saw next exit was for a Military Memorial and we took it, but were unable to find the turn around if there was one.

Next thing we know, its dark, big stop sign ahead and bright flood lights lighting up the car. Guy with M16 says 'welcome to Cheyenne Mountain'. Half hour later after cavity searches we were back on our way.

Have a great time, Pete! As much as I love Colorado ... I think you should venture a little further west to Utah for some real scenery! ;)

I would love to, but I only have 9 days and that includes the 20 hour drive each way. Colorado is the closest place with the scenery that I would like to shoot. Plus the wildlife is a plus.

The one problem with my job is, that they don't like us using more than one week of vacation at a time.

Seems like that sentiment is pretty much everywhere ... I'm still trying to get a two week vacation at some point. You can't go wrong with Colorado, so I'm sure you'll come home with some great images.

Just an update...First day did a 13 hour drive and stayed at Salina Ks. Made it to Loveland Co Sunday afternoon.
Monday drove around the park, took some shots of Elks and a bunch of landscape shots as well.

Today we drove out to Medicine Bow lake in WY. Awesome landscape shots.(cant wait to see them in LR) Better than the Rocky Mtn Park shots in my opinion. Also took some shots of wild antalope/
We have two more full days to explore. Will be home saturday afternoon. Uploading images will start then and will continue into Sunday.

Colorado has too many places for that short of a trip, and you're going to find many reasons to go back. I lived there for three years, and unfortunately saw hardly any of it! Vacations were spent back east with family, and since we bought a "fixer upper", I spent the rest of the time working on the house. I was sure I'd get moved and a chance to go back, but it didn't happen. One of these days, I'll get back out there by myself and see the place the way I want to see it!

Finished our last day. Took a second drive out to Medicine Bow Lake in WY. On the way back stopped in Cheyenne and then one last visit at the Rocky Mountain National park in the evening.
What a great day it was. We saw more Elk this evening then the last 3 days combined.

I'm going to post so many Elk shots that I'll probably get banned for spamming.:) Also took some great looking ( well they look pretty good on the back of my camera) landscape shots at Medicine Bow with some freshly fallen snow.

So ... we should get Don to implement a 15-day ban proactively, so you've culled through the Elk images before you can get back online to post? ;)

Sounds like a great trip!

I'm culling right now, as I just got home. Most of the Elk shots are at 4000 ISO as they mostly only come out at the evening . They stay in the woods most of the time.
Just looking them over in LR and even at 4000 ISO They will clean up real nice. Love my D500.

Landscape shots also looking nice at first glance. The D750 gave no trouble at all.
Looks like I took about 900 shots all together with the 2 cameras. A lot of those are panorama, multiple exposure and some repetition shots.
