Back when someone posted the t-shirts for Nikon's anniversary, I ordered one. It still hasn't come in yet. :(

I get special edition mark up, but most of these 100th Nikon items are absurdly priced
Agreed.

Ive seen 50th anniversary F5s on eBay.

Theyre marked 1948-1998, 50th. It's 2017. 2017-1998 = 19. 19+50=69. 69 is not 100. So... I feel like they're sort of using alternative facts to derive a 100 year legacy...and I'll be curious to see what they claim in 2048.

July 25, 2017 is the date I come up with when Nikon originated (internet search). Since today is their 100th anniversary, I'm wondering if the shirts will be released for sale today.

I think you meant July 25, 1917. And yes, I get that. My point was if today is 100 years, how was 1948-1998 a 50th anniversary if 1967 would've been the 50th?

Likely because the Nikon 1 was the first official camera of Nikon and the namesake of the mirrorless compact today.

Point being, their anniversary products lack context to anyone except Nikon history buffs and therefore come off as a convenient way to pricehike product one offs. Like, stamping 100th anniversary on a graphite grey moulding justifies a several hundred dollar adjustment...

Yes, you are correct with the date! :)

My shirt arrived a couple weeks ago. It's nice but it's very light-weight/thin. My Nikonites shirt from Zazzle is much heavier and seems to be a better quality overall. Still...it's nice to have a Nikon branded t-shirt. ;)
