Thoughts on taking a flash to WDW

My wife and I are going to the Flower Festival at Walt Disney World for six days on the 29th of this month. My question is do you think there would be any advantage to take a flash for shooting the flowers and topiary plants down there day or night? would the colors pop more or would it just be a nuisance to carry around?

What flash are you talking about? If it's a camera attached flash like the Nikon SBs, then yes I would take it, and a small modifier/diffuser as well. Use it to lessen contrast and as a fill flash during the harsh light outside of the Golden Hour. Use it for primary light during the Blue Hour if the park is open that late.

I have an SB900, SB800, and SB600. I was thinking of taking the SB900 with my D500 and Sigma 17-50 F2.8

I would definitely take it. It should allow you to stop you lenses down a bit as well. Do you have a translucent diffuser for it?

While you're there in the Orlando area, think about visiting Colonial Photo & Hobby, east of downtown Orlando. They have a really nice camera department. Mind you, it's not B&H or Adorama, but it is nice. https://www.cphfun.com

Why not take the 800? It's smaller, more powerful and won't blow up under rapid use! :)

That's a good point, but were it me I'd be using the flash in manual mode and at a reduced power level. But let's not talk about the potential problems with the -900 that might lead to them being banned from public and and private gathering areas... ;)

Taking the SB800 after thinking about it seems like a good idea. I haven't used in in a while so I got it out and started playing with it. I couldn't get the flash head to zoom with my lens and after about 1 1/2 hours of cussing and fussing finally figuring out that when the diffuser is on the front of the flash that the flash sets itself to 14mm and will not change when you zoom the lens. With the diffuser off it worked just fine. The flash almost got airborne a couple of times before figuring this out.
