    Canon 600mm f/4

While shooting at the Osprey's nest today, there was a lady there with a Canon and a huge lens. I walked up and struck up a conversation. I asked if that was a 600mm f/4 lens and it turned out that I was right.
Also turned out that she was a very nice lady and asked if I would like to take a few shots, since she probably noticed the drool coming out of my mouth..

I respectfully declined, since I don't like to touch anyone else's stuff, especially one that costs around 12,000 dollars, but I did look through the viewfinder.
She had a 1.4TC on it, connected to a 7D MKII (crop sensor).
That is 1350mm f/5.6 on a full frame, if my calculation is correct. She had it on a tripod with a Gimbal head.

The lens itself weighs 8 pounds and other than that it's white, it's a thing of beauty. I stayed and we talked for a good half hour.
The best thing about it was, that not once she or I ever brought up the Nikon vs Canon debate. We just talked about settings and stuff and our mutual love for photography.

Someone showed up at our local photography club shoot yesterday with a 200mm/f2, and people were still talking about it today.

I would love to try that out. I don't do portraits like @kevy73 , but that is one sweet lens.
I actually watched a Youtube vid yesterday on the 200mm f/2 comparing it to the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8.

Matt Granger did a good video with the 200/f2, 105/f1.4, and the 70-200/f2.8. Makes me want to win the lottery.

Lot of hobbyists out there that have unreal amount of equipment. I sold a lens to a guy a couple years ago and when we met he showed up in an old beat up truck, rough worn clothes, etc., but when he opened up his truck to mount my lens he had the whole back seat full of bodies and barrels. Thought my eyes were gonna pop out of my head. LOL!

Even if I had the money to spend, I don't think I would buy such a lens for what I'm doing. It seems very limiting in its use. First, you couldn't handhold the thing for any length of time, so you have to drag that thing around a very sturdy tripod which is a giant PIA.
Second ,with a fixed focal length that long, not being able to zoom out if you had to, you'd miss a lot of shots.

If I had that kind of dough to spend, I'd take an Alaskan vacation instead.
