Drone! I've become addicted

...photography is still #1 but - with the upcoming changes to FAA rules I'll be getting sUAS certified so I can use this commercially. This is my starter drone - DJi Phantom 4k - once I get the certification sorted I should be proficient with it and will step up to something more "professional"

This vid was my first flight, so nothing exciting, but still fun in my book!

Honestly from being involved with a professional drone operator just recently. You have a long way to go, remember slow and steady movements are your friend. Stabilize and pan. But it is awesome that you are keen, keep up the good work.

A really good friend of mine is a TV cameraman/pro photog and he's been mentoring me and providing guidance. Slow and steady is my rule here - which is why I didn't go out and spend 2K (or more) on an Inspire. :D Learning flight characteristics first, then will work on photo proficiency....

Here's one from last night - still not very brave. I nail my deck near the end - but stayed in the air - prop guards worked well....

How do you know which one to start with?

I just sort of started with the fact I didn't want a "toy" and went from there and settled on the Phantom 3 4k. The range isn't the best but for my first drone I wasn't looking for a long distance - was more looking at ease of use and cost. The Phantom 4 is also a good choice, and has better range, but I didn't want to spend that much out of the gate. This is my "starter" drone and next year I'll step up to latest, greatest. :)

Nope - the 3 4k (Phantom 3 4K -*4K Aerial Video For Everyone | DJI) It has pretty limited range (thats the one I have) about 3/4 mile +/-. Advanced is out to about 3.1 miles...I'm fine with the range right now - a year from now I know I won't be but until I'm proficient at flying I'm perfectly happy with it.

Sure look like my P3Pro. And it shoots 4k as well. Maybe they choked the range as I've easily gone out 10,000 feet with a windsurfer and still had 3 bars.

Yeah it's pretty close - I just didn't want to spend that much initially....it's probably the same drone with different firmware :p I did pick up a range extender tho - that'll put me out to about 1.5-2 miles which will be plenty (for now) I didn't want to spend over $700 on the drone itself right now... :D
