Central Florida

Hubby and I are headed to the Orlando area (Kissimmee) in just over 2 weeks. We will be there for 2 weeks...

We're thinking of doing Sea World, and maybe up to 2 days in Disney (been a few times now so its not high on the priority list).

We are looking for nice walks/parks/things to do that are off the "normal" tourist radar... maybe hire a boat for a day/part day... things like that.

Can anyone recommend places to visit that arent teeming with tourists... or just nice places to go

OOh and if anyone can recommend a good steakhouse in the area for us to spend our wedding anniversary, that would be great too :)

Many thanks
T :)

the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland is only an hour away from Orlando. A great nature walk and a photographer must if you are that close. plan a day there.

Anything that isnt one of the big theme parks , tends to be more pleasant and relaxed , some people do airboat rides, rent pontoon boats ,or theres the Mount Dora dinner train , theres cycling trails etc, it really all depends depends on what YOU like to do with your time together. The massed crowds are found at places like Disney ,Universal, Daytona Beach, Busch Gardens .. the rest of central florida is .. more normal. I think its best not to be too paranoid about the hubbub, make some crazy guesses, and enjoy however it turns out to be -together , rather than have specific expectations that can be dashed.

Thanks. We enjoy walking (which works well with me liking photography), we often walk along the local rivers and canals here, go to old stately homes and historic locations... We're itching to see "normal" Florida as it is somewhere we can see ourselves spending our retirement, well as much time as our mutual governments allow. By spending time doing similar things to what we do here in the UK, we can see if we really want that for our retirement, and plan accordingly.
The Mount Dora dinner train looks like a nice thing, hubby loves trains, specially steam trains.

Thanks again

I hope you Floridians have booked me some nice weather. Getting on the plane on Sunday morning for 2 weeks of (hopefully) nice sunny weather

Have a fun trip and hope the weather is nice for you. We've been having some really nasty stuff down my way.

Back in the UK. Managed to miss the bad weather altogether :) Rained only one day (for less than an hour), but plenty of distant storms to watch on a nightly basis :)
Feel totally refreshed as we did next to nothing for 2 weeks

Ok, Tracey, you're home for three days already!!! How was the trip? Where are the photos? :excitement:

And by the way, if you did next to nothing for two weeks, where did you do it? That sounds like somewhere I'd like to visit! ;)
