When my D600 had the oil spot problem, I think I called first. You will be required to pay the shipping cost to them even though it is under warranty. They will pay the return cost. And just so you know, when they returned mine, it wasn't insured for more than the lowest amount so I didn't have to sign for it. It was left at my door...all THREE times.

I'm hoping this won't be the case. It doesn't take much for me to jump brands. As much as I love the D750 it doesn't take much to pee me off when it comes to lousy customer service.

Based on that post I would be prepared to switch brands if I were you.

I wish you good luck.

I hope it doesn't come to that, but I don't think anyone would fault you if it does. Makes me question things too...

Whoa there, cowboy! ;) I might have been the first Nikonite who experienced repeated D600 shutter problems after it was replaced. There were a few others who had theirs replaced and didn't experience the oil/dust issue to the extent I did. Plus Nikon scratched my sensor during the first shutter replacement. I never heard of anyone else who experienced that problem. One sensor replacement and two shutter replacements left me no better than when the problem first arose.

By the third time my body was sent in for repair, other Nikonites began experiencing problems after their first shutter replacement. Nikon has a New York based office. And New York has one of those 3-strikes laws. I let my fingers doing the walking across the internet and found the name of the law (the name eludes me now, but I mentioned it here back then). As far as I know, I was the only person to get a refund. Everyone else got a replacement.

So don't worry. Once they admitted the D600 problem AND once they came up with a solution, their customer service got much better. Even with all I went through, I'm still a Nikon fan. Granted, it's not fun DURING the process, but I have no doubt your issue will be resolved.

Oh...and a question for you. Do you shoot a lot of continuous shots? Just wondering if that has something to do with it.

Why would you be upset? I don't see why they'd pay for insurance of everything they ship... when they can just pick a new off the self if one or two a year get lost in transit...

You might as well bail now... They had minimum insurance on my lens. They shipped it economy-ground...(took 10 days to get here from LA,CA) and didn't require a signature so USPS just left it by the front door...

Most likely a Rep will simply tell you to send it in anyway, so I'd tell you to go ahead and ship. You *clearly* have something going on that requires professional attention.

Great advice. When my D5100 shutter failed some years back, I phoned Nikon to confirm the repair process and the Nikon customer service representative insisted on treating me like I was six years old. After 15 minutes, she finally agreed that something was wrong. Sheeesh.

I packed it very carefully (box within a box) and it was returned to me barely packed, loose in a box with very little packing material. Nonetheless, the repair was successful and all has been well for several years now. <knocking on wood>

Be sure to remove everything except for the body cap. One time I accidentally left my SD cards in the slot. They did return them along with the body. All 3 times my D600 was securely wrapped in the bubble wrap that has the really fat bubbles.

Still wondering about this. Were you using continuous when the shutter problem became noticeable or shortly after using it?

Not sure how you proceeded with the shipping yesterday, but I would follow up with a phone call today. It is funny to me but there has been a shift in customer service. I was a Tech service engineer for years back in the 80s and we worked for solutions. If we said that we hadn't heard of that problem it was true. Seems even in my old company the goal is to find fault with the customer or at least offer minimal assistance. I will say for the packing when i got my refurbished D7200, I think from Ohio, it was bubble wrapped and double boxed. UPS required my signature and he asked me if I had gotten a camera repaired... he said he had delivered stuff like that from Nikon before.

Hope she gets home soon, in good working order.

@Blacktop, I just moments ago learned why Dolly had the shutter failure... She Turned 70 today... things are sure to falter a bit when your 70 years old... :) I have always been more of an Emmylou fan. Partial to that Roses in the Snow album... Besides You cannot keep Dolly down... who'ed believe she is 70 years old... :)

I don't think so. I had the 24-120 on her when the shutter failed completely, so I wasn't shooting birds. I use the CH/CL on my D7100 a lot more and never gave me problems.
That's not to say that I never use CH/CL on the D750. I normally do short bursts of 3-4 shots.
