My name is _______ and I am overweight

Went on a diet for the first time yesterday. We will see how it goes. Recent doctor/lab reports show that my blood sugar and triglycerides are high. On some serious meds that screw up my liver and others that screw up my kidneys. Loosing weight would help both of those organs so that they could handle the meds better. I found a weight loss doctor that made a lot of sense and did not sound like a quack. He looked at my labs and at my meds list and explained how they were all connected. Low carbs and no Coke Zero anymore. That is what I will miss more than anything. I can still eat bacon for breakfast though so we know the doctor is on my side.

Wish me luck.

I could stand to lose about 50 pounds myself. Maybe able to get rid of some of the meds I'm on. Good luck Don!

That is actually my goal. 50 pounds. That would put me a a great weight. I do not want to get to the weight I was when I got married. Was 6'2" and weighed 135LBS. Skin and bones. Not quite double that weight now but fairly close. I would really like to get down to 195.

Yes, same here. I was 165 when I got married, but if I could get down to 185 I know I would feel much better. My doctor said that I probably could lose the Diabetic meds if I lost weght, plus I wouldn't need all the blood pressure meds either.
Unfortunately he thinks that my mental illness will remain, whether skinny or "big boned". LOL!!;)

Good luck,i only put a stone on after retirement but decided to lose it again, just cut out all the crap between meals and have lost half of it in 8 months so its a nice steady loss.

At this point they are calling me "Pre-diabetic" and I do not want to lose the "Pre" part of that. High blood pressure that is very much in control with the use of meds but it would probably help to drop the meds so maybe drop the meds. I also have Psoriatic arthritis and take Methotrexate which is a low level chemo drug and starting on Enbrel later this month. Dropping the weight and getting the blood sugar and Triglycerides down to a normal level would probably go a long way to being able to stop some of the drugs and other problems. The weight doctor would not add certain drugs for me without getting clearance from my other doctors but he also questioned on of my doctors choice of treatment for the Triglycerides and suggested I talk to him about it. What is so funny is that that doctor is my family doctor and took over the practice after my original doctor died. He has missed a couple of things that I think he should have caught and also failed to give me a good explanation of my recent lab reports. I downloaded them from the labs website and was not real happy with what I saw. Time for a new GP.

I feel your pain Don. I'm struggling to loose some weight myself. The lack of or inconsistent exercise on my part made me gain 10 lbs since my retirement from the military last Sept.

I refuse to buy larger clothes so this extra lbs gotta go!

Good luck Don, you seem to have a lot of company on this diet with other members here.

I have another 25-30lbs to lose, its a slow process and its hard work... gym 4 nights a week, long (5-15mile) walks at the weekends... but I feel much better for shedding the weight I have lost so far.

I know you can do this, Don! The hardest part for me, when I kicked my plan into gear, was giving up the Dr Pepper each day. I used to drink a lot more Dr Pepper than I would alcohol. It gets easier, it's just a matter of realizing where sugar is hidden in food, and then controlling that.

I sympathise with you Don as I'm struggling too in this never ending road of "watch what you eat" before it's too late thing. I find it a bit hard some days when frustration adds up to the good taste of some food. I had lost about 40 pounds after my heart attack five years ago but unfortunately got around 15 since then. So I'm back to where I almost was and have to watch myself constantly.

I do agree that sugar is the number 3 killer in North America, after smoking and car accidents, so one has to be vigilant as the food industries keep adding more and more just to keep us hooked on the darn thing.

Anyway, good luck and just keep in mind the benefits of a lighter body: You can then buy a larger camera and carry more lenses with you... :)

All the best.

Good luck.

One and a half year ago my weight was 99kg= 218lb and my height 1.79m= 5ft I was so upset and started not a diet but a kind of. I reduced my portions of food . Everyday I walked 12000 Steps. Yes, I have an Iphone App to count my steps.

After about 7 month my weight was 80kg= 176lb. Than I tried to keep my weight. 5 month I was able to keep my weight, than I started 15000 Steps and now my weight is 77kg= 169lb.

I eat everything but when I feel full I stop putting food in my mouth.

My Quality of Life is now back on track

My goal is to loose 7kg= 15lb more. to the end of 2015
