Any Gulf Coast Nikonites?

Hey all. I'm heading to Perdido Key next week sand was wondering if there are any fellow Nikonites in that vicinity. Would love to find some great places to shoot the local birds and other wildlife; and being able to do that with somebody from here would make it even better. If nothing else; anybody with local knowledge of some great spots along the coast from Mobile over to Pensacola; please chime in here or shoot me a PM. Last year was fun with my first dslr, but I really am looking forward to seeing what I can come home with now.

Thanks for the info so far all. And thanks to grandpa for sure me behind the scenes data, too! Maybe we can meet up.

Don, we are almost certainly doing a dolphin tour for our youngest. She's been talking about it for weeks. I'll look up that group and see about using them. Thanks for the heads up. Having a good guide is a must.

Guess I'll be hitting the beach state park, fishing marinas, and Fort Morgan near Orange Beach. There's also a few nature trails pretty close by. I'm really hoping some Brown Pelicans are still around.

WE have been on a couple of dolphin tours. The first one was a standard boat and you had to stand to see over the side of the boat and if the dolphins were close you could not see them. This tour had a much better boat. You could sit and see the water directly beside the boat and move around. They also have all the dolphins named and can show photos of them and tell you what their names are. You can tell they love and respect the dolphins.

There is also a ferry going across the bay at Fort Morgan going to Fort Gaines and Dauphin Island that is a lot of fun and a good chance to see some birds. WE have always seen more birds on the Fort Gaines side

Looking forward to what you find. The pier is on the top of my list, then I thought I would hit Zeiks marina for boat shots and of course sun rise/set and waves. But that's the extent so far. The last time we were there I hadn't gotten back into photography, so really getting pumped for our trip this year.

On the road and geared up for a great week. The air museum is a certainty even though the Angels will not be practicing this week. Have the dolphin tour and a couple other little side trips planned. I might even get a few days with 4-5 hours to venture out on my own to shoot in peace. LoL!!

Haven't had a chance to read through the thread but wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I will likely head to the gulf coast next month and found one place that looks promising, Venice Rookery. The website touts it as a great place but I'm not sure how great. Living in FL I know there are tons of great locations so take it for what it's worth.

Looks like a pretty promising location. Unfortunately I'll be in the north close to Pensecola. Thanks though!
