A few quick test shots with the 35mm lens

A few quick test shots with the 35mm lens. And a special thanks to RocketCowboy for the great bargain. I am going to love this lens. Having to wait on the sun to come out to Fine Tune the focus on it.

damn looks sharp as hell those images. my favorite is the burgers picture. something "clean and simple" about it. and the image of the windows would make a killer b&w image.

that focal looks comfortable. but I want to make my life difficult so ordered a cheapo lens calibration chart. a few bucks. want to see what it can do. Im trying to move into video so having to pinch pennies.

will do a review when it comes.

I did a FineTune this evening after these shots using the FoCal software and the lens got a lot sharper. If it is not raining in the morning I will reshoot these photos. Leaving for northeast Alabama tomorrow afternoon and am hoping for decent weather so I can get a little shooting in.

Not come across FoCal before the reporting looks very comprehensive.

Will be interested to see the results of the fine tune. Have you used it on other lenses?

I have the Reikan Focal software, but now prefer to fine-tune my lenses manually.

1) Get a very stable tripod and mount the camera and lens,

2) Put the lens in manual focus

3) Turn on Live View and zoom in as far as possible. I mean push the + to zoom the Live View, not zoom the lens.

4) Achieve perfect focus manually on the Live View screen, while it is zoomed in. The focus you see in Live View is the same focus that is directly on the sensor.

5) Turn off Live View but DO NOT MOVE THE CAMERA.

6) Still in manual focus mode, look in the view finder and push the shutter button (or BBF if that's how you roll).

7) If the AF indicator in the viewfinder shows the green circle, the AF system agrees with your manual focus. If the AF system shows an arrow left or right, you need to adjust the lens calibration until the circle appears.

You have now trained the AF system to see perfect focus as you have set it in Live View.

Dear GAWD but I hate doing lens calibrations... That being said, thank you for reminding me I've not yet calibrated my primes on my D750 and boy do they need it. *sigh*

As to the 35mm prime, that's the lens that's all but welded to my GF's '5300 and it never ceases to amaze me what she can do with it. She won't touch my zooms ("Zooming is a pain." (??!!)) or any of my other primes. That little 35 is all she's interested in but I can't argue with her result's.

Good tip. I have never calibrated any of my gear :(

Yes to other lenses. My old eyes have trouble see the differences in -3 and +3 so having the software to do it for me is great. I also think it can see minor differences better than we can anyway. Still pretty rainy here so I hope it will clear up a little so I can go grab a few shots.

For those who have not fine tuned your lenses or want to see how FoCal works here is the shot I did yesterday BEFORE I fine tuned my lens.

Thats what I needed to see. what a difference.

I assume the PP was exactly the same and no cheating, if so

FoCal looks good to me
