Headed to Vegas - Take or Leave the Nikon?

Here's the scoop. Headed to Vegas for a week. It's our annual user conference, so we'll have about 1400 customers out there with most of the time spent in the hotel itself.

I'm debating whether it's a good idea to take the camera and a lens or two, or better to just leave it all at home. In the past, I don't get a lot of free time to myself, so not a lot of opportunity to shoot, other than the day I arrive and leave.

What would the Nikonites do? :)

Take at least one camera and lens. If you don't get a chance to use it, no problem, but at least you'll have it if you need it.

i travel practically every week. a couple of time I have taken the camera, but unless it is something really special i leave it. If I need to make a quick pic I use my cellphone camera whch is pretty good. Las Vegas is all about the night time, so if you want to take your camera then you will possibly have to take a tripod also! if you get out and about in vegas....... leave the camera and enjoy the city )

I concur with taking the D5300 and the 10-24. Keep it on you as much as possible, do you use a BlackRapid or similar strap? Ideal.
This would be my approach as well... If you don't take a real camera you'll invoke Murphy's Law and wind up wishing you had.

Besides, the '5300 is waaay capable and it's small and light enough, even wearing that 10-24mm, that it's no big deal to tote around. I'd be more inclined toward the 35mm f/1.8G, myself, but that's just me...

When you get there, you know in those few brief moments, you're gonna be thinking... 'MAN! That would be a nice shot! If only...'

I vote for taking one of the cams, the 10-24 and a zoom at least... and a tripod for a sweet strip shot after dark! (the main street "strip", not one of those other shows ;) )

I was in the same boat last year. A week in Vegas for a conference and most of my days were all planned out (day and evening). In my case I ended up buying a small mirrorless and brought a couple of lenses. If I were you I'd bring the D5300 and the 10-24 and possibly the 50mm. If it sits in your luggage the whole trip it's not a biggie. It doesn't take up that much space.

If you get to visit Old Vegas that's when you'll really love having your camera. The lights are spectacular and it's more of a walk-n-shoot vibe. I was able to attend an event at the Vegas Speedway and shooting the high end sports cars was nice. Plus they had pro drivers take us out on the track and the video of that going into bank turns was fun.

I don't have a BlackRapid, just the Nikon strap that came with each of the bodies. It's been on my list most recently, so maybe this is what pushes it from list to acquired. :)
