Southern California Meetup Thread :: Gauging Interest ::

Putting out "feelers" to see if there are any fellow Nikonites in the Southern California area that might like to meet up for a day of shooting, General BS'ing and Canon Bashing (BS'ing and Canon Bashing optional).

And by Southern California I mean really Southern as in "I'm in the San Diego area, but I'd be willing to drive a couple hours or so in most any direction (except west (last time I did that it took WEEKS for the car to dry-out completely and the fish smell never really went away))." My time frame is pretty flexible, but I will be out of town the week of March 14th - 20th. Other than that, I'm pretty much good to go.

So... Any interested parties? Bear in mind, this could go Full Epic.

We were traveling west 2-3 times a year and have had work in the hopper in San Diego, so you never know and I never know, but I would be interested.

If I was a little closer I would go. The Florida meet and greet was fantastic and nobody bashed me for using my Canon as a backup to my Nikon!

We haven't set firm dates yet and I'm thinking first part of April? I'm out of town mid-March and pushing it out a little bit gives everyone some time to plan. Is that time frame generally agreeable?

Early April should be perfect... but any weekend will work... I'm only 1-1 1/2 hour from San Diego.
Well... As for locations we have deserts (e.g. Borrego Springs), Beaches (e.g. La Jolla Shores), Woodsy areas (e.g. Cleveland National Forest) and of course there's Downtown San Diego and/or the waterfront for something more urban. I know of some "off the beaten path" places like the abandoned Carizzo Gorge Railroad (mild hike/walking involved), the Salton Sea (great if you love abandoned urban landscapes/dead stuff) but both of those a little outside of San Diego, per se[/].

I'm just spit-ballin' here and anyone is free to jump in and make some suggestions.

What the latest on this?, I am ready.lol
Now that I'm back from vacation we can choose a location. I'm thinking somewhere near downtown San Diego because it's easy to find an there is a variety of shooting locations nearby. There's the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village and the Marina all right there in downtown. If we want to head north a few minutes we could hit the beaches of Torrey Pines/La Jolla or Mission Beach. I'm open to suggestions for locations; those are just my thoughts.

As for dates I'm wide open. Easter Sunday is coming up for those that observe it on April 5th; do we need to schedule around that for anyone? If so, we can fall back on the 12th.

Edit: For those not familiar, parking just about anywhere in San Diego on a weekend will be a stone-cold b--ch, so be prepared for that. :D
