Sports Illustrated Lays Off All Staff Photographers

Too bad, I guess I'm not surprised, printed media is dying a fast death

I think this is particularity true for magazines. By the time a magazine is written and published it is old news already. I even stopped my newspaper subscription long ago because even a day late the news was already on the internet and revised twice. Even the TV stations are having to have a department just to keep their website news up to date and even more current than their over the air broadcasts.

Wow. It was one thing to see it happen at some newspapers, but SI is so identified for their photographs. I'm sure they will still get plenty of freelance submissions, though.

Does anyone have any idea of how much their staff photographers contributed to the publication?

My surprise wore off in 1/1600th of a second. Photography is a tough business, especially sports photography. That list of names contains the best of the best. They'll recover nicely, I'm sure.
