have very little experience with video/TV cables and such. need to help my mother.

new TV only has one HDMI input. so we connect the cable box. we also have a streamer which wed like to connect but dont want to constantly switch the cable everytime we use one or the other.. im not proficient with this. are there different versions of HDMI or is this a basic HDMI cable?

need a splitter and many ebay sellers sell them for cheap. one store wanted to sell us one for $60. I asked if it was gold plated. seems unreasonably high

these are the pics of the cable box and the streamer. the tv is the female.

hows this one?
I think the none square one is what I need, correct?
the non square one has a select button. so this means I have to press which one I want activated and then use the tv remote to put in the right channel as well?

or something simple like this fine?

It sounds like your using one cable box for two or more TVs, and signal strength counts in this type of thing. I'm guessing the 5v is a booster to keep the signal good to both TVs. I'm not sure though since I've never tried that before.

Cable usually makes you rent a box for every TV, and I'm guessing this will help you get around that sorta. Both tvs will be on the same channels I would think. So you can go to the kitchen from the living room and still watch your show, I'm guessing! :)

No problem is

1 TV, one hdmi connection 1 cable box and 1 streamer box.

the OLD TV had 2 hdmi connections so it wasnt a problem to switch between them. just use the tv remote between them and use the input channel u need.

I fianlly realized what the 5v is for. its like USB devices that need a lot of power to work and some USB hubs let use a 5v to power them. things like a WD passport usb drive doesnt need it but other things like a 3.5 HDD enclose would.
