Well as I was waiting on my appointment a lady was drawn to my Nikon! Yes the D300 with a Nikkor AF 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ed d lens on it is one sexy beast! Lol :) Anyway she was very interested in what photos I took and such. Well I only had two of my photos on my galaxy note 3 phone. My favorite spider shots and as other spider shot I took more recently.
Well she was all sorts of impressed, and insisted that I should show them. You know like a painter having his/her own show of their art type of thing! I tried to explain that I wasn't good enough for that sorta of thing and she just wasn't having it, and stuck to her opinion strongly!

I do admit I enjoyed the major compliment, well for a couple seconds anyway. But it was very short lived as this thought was running through my mind loudly, that she wouldn't be saying this if she saw all the truly great photographers on this forum. Lol

But it did show me that my work could be appreciated by people I've never seen before, and that was a great experience! :)

Don't downgrade yourself. You take very good pictures. You should though, considering you probably lug around twenty pounds of gear with those two cameras of yours.

Oh I have my good days, but a lot of you guys are much better as a whole! :)
I wonder if they have golf caddy's for photographers! That would make things easier! They carry your gear and could even recommend good settings on particular shots! Lol :D

As weebee said, you're taking great pictures.

I've got a caddy it's myself :triumphant:

I take now my small photo bag, which I got free when I bought the D80 many years back. I got that idea when I was a bit upset 3 month ago no having the 55-300 with me when I saw a stork for the very first time at my hometown. The bag is very handy, and there is enough space for two lenses.
One lens, the 16-85mm or the 40mm is on the camera for do some street, the 55-300mm and the Sigma 10-20mm are in the bag in case I have some special in my mind during walking or I see something I think may be interesting capture it. It is now a pleasure going on a photo walk. I don't know why I didn't get that idea long time ago. Maybe cos of my age, and Alzheimer is knocking on the door

I've noticed in doing shows that there are a lot of people that miss good photography. It is not as common anymore and many times I'm the only photographer at shows (which helps my sales :)).

Going back 20-30 years when my dad did the occasional show, there would be 4-5 nature/landscape photographers at small shows and they got little attention.

Well done Bill, it feels good doesn't it. I make it a point never to show anyone my photos until I'm sure their glasses are well hidden. I get a lot more compliments that way.

Nice spidey pics btw

It's a strange thing the first time you hear this from someone. It's even stranger when you thank them, forget about it and then they say it again. It's even stranger when they own a gallery and offer you space to hang your work, and when you do someone actually gives them money for it.

My advice? Say thank you, accept any offers to show, and then bust your ass to justify to yourself that you belong there - because most artists don't create with the idea to sell, they do it for their own love of it and see all the flaws, so the idea that anyone else would not only want to really look at it, but actually own it is so foreign that accepting it is a learned behavior.

Now, if and when you do start showing/selling, you'll want to start really looking at your work and focus it down to things that are both pleasing to you and pleasing to others. We all have our own "style", we just need to focus it. But that comes later.
