corrupt files on memory card. why you must use the 2nd slot for backup

4 images uploaded images are corrupted. wont mention the brand but if I dont get replacements quickly, will no longer buy from them. I cant take the chance the cards will fail. luckily I always have the 2nd slot as a backup. also when I shoot, I always shoot two images one after the other...

my reputation is on the line. a $30 memory card is not going to ruin it for me.

Just curious... what makes them any different than any of the other dozen cloud storage vendors?

who mediafire? theyre all fine.

I simply searched for an upload site so people can grab large files. like those I uploaded when I shot the tamron 17-35 vs the nikon 17-35

Top 10 Largest File-Sharing Sites | TorrentFreak

theyre all fine. look here at the traffic. im not a paid member but if you need to upload some things so others can download use one of those.

and I simply dont like drop box. used them, meh. but I dont use it often. dont have many files.

anyways back to the subject? haha

Yea buddy, I remember your post VERY WELL. thank god for 2 slotted cameras. the other card was ok. but this is the first time for me so pretty much became white and sweaty and almost crapped myself from fear. this is the 3rd card in a year. we use D3 D3s D4 D4s. so not specific to a camera. I wont say the name because im in discussion with the company. I told them that they will replace all my cards. I didnt ask. less than a year old. thats some bad stats. im not going to ruin someones once in a lifetime event because of a $30 card. screw that.

@Blacktop yes a paid gig. but its ok since I recovered from the other card. I also tried it with another card reader (which I would suggest to all of you to have a spare and even 3 in total) and it didnt help. still corrupted files. its scary when it first happens to you but now I know what to expect.

thank god my technique is to shoot twice almost every picture. but for instance family pictures I shoot so much of groups and individuals. face/half body/full body that I would find proper images even if I only had corrupt fles. you can never shoot too many images and I make it a rule to shoot my ass but to get the image is bottom line.

one thing I will add is if you see your card hiccuping or have the slightest lag, or behaving even for a second weirdly, dont doubt. take it out, and RMA it and get another. those once in a lifetime images, no matter what they may be new born baby, family event, school event, kids party, wedding, etc...whatever are precious. take it out, and put aside and contact the MFR and get rid of it (dont sell it! that would be morally worng!) and get it replaced!

@Browncoat: our colleague El Rocketto didn't mention the capacity of the card - if it is a low capacity, it could be a good brand.;)

Anyway, two cards, preferably one saving RAWs the other jpgs, is a real pro solution...

Pro? Check. Reputation? Check. Shoots with D3, D3s, D4, D4s? Check.

$30 El Cheapo memory card? You should know better.

Not cheapo card buddy. 16gb card 50mb transfer speed. its fine. its a name brand. but now I will be going to lexar professional series. dont think you need to buy the fastest speed but dont buy the slowest speed. I bought the next one up. I just got back to photography last years and stepped into the digital world. may pros use them without an issue. but I will jump a level and go with the lexar pro cards now.

I prefer 16gb cards and replacing them then have everything on 32gb cards.

I gotta dumb question, which I try hard not to ask dumb questions, because sometimes they turn out to be really stupid questions, but here goes.

What about these images points to the card? Is this a common "when a card hiccups" result?

Ah ok. well, this happened to me first time. I had an old 8gb sandisk extreme3 that took a while to transfer and while it was transferring it stopped at a certain time of the transfer and was transferring the pics one at a time VERY slowly.

with the above pics this is new for me and I never saw this before. on the camera screen it looks fine, and when I passed the pictures I click on 1 or two images and see its fine. I then opened it in acdsee and see these colors and cut pictures and was confused and started panicking. its very scary. I told my friend call me asap. told him. he calmly said, yea corrupt files. card is no good. still trying to calm my nerves. think about it. your computer has a backup HD and your main computer falls. even though you have a backup, its very scary. but basically what you see there and what I saw first time means curropt files. at first I thought it was the shutter but seeing the green and red and others are pink and blue means the files doesnt have all the picture info.

hope that helped.

do you guys not see the red and green huge stripes and the image cut? just asking if you guys see what im seeing?

I asked my friend who had experience with it. he immediately knew that it means corrupt files. the other card is fine and used another card reader as well so its that card specifically.

he also said if it starts stalling and taking a long time to transfer, time to RMA.

Yes, I see it. I can imagine the scarey moments. My experience is corrupt files usually cannot be opened, but there are certainly many things beyond my experience. So, I ask.

I've heard of this issue before, but, personally never had any such problems even with the cheapest cards (SD, SDHC) like class 4 Verbatim, Kingston...advertised as "general purpose", in different machines (point'n'shoot class). Nowadays I'm using Sandisk (2x16GB class 10 for D7000, SanDisk Ultra 16GB Secure Digital High Capacity SDHC UHSI Class 10 Memory Card SDSDU-016G-A46 - Best Buy) and a Samsung (2x32GB class 6, one for D5100 and the other for Olympus PEN, SDHC 32GB Memory Card MB-SS32D/AM | Memory & Storage), so far without problem...
