Yellowstone trip planning

As most are aware I am planning on meeting Dave in Cody Yellowstone in early July, but it looks like I am going via LA. Now my question is should I allow a few days in LA or head straight to Cody? As most know I love wildlife and nature so extra days in Yellowstone would be ideal but is there anything good in LA that may take my interest?

Reaching a little, but Yosemite is major, and not all that far from LA, at least sort of on the way to Yellowstone.

dave/scott - how many days do you plan on for visiting the parks? Imo forget la and cody and meet in jackson, wy.
Jackson is both and winter and summer resort and has all the goodies from $$$$$ to $.

I am looking at 10-14 days would be longer but I need to get home to show my parents the sites where I currently live. I am flying to Cody as its closer to Dave and he has the camping gear and 4wd OH and ability to drive on the wrong side of the road ;-)

enjoy your trip, hope you will be staying in the park, driving around the park will be the least enjoyable park of the trip.
Speed limit most roads 50 mph with all the animals and rubberneckers 35 mph average is a good day.
