What not to buy on black friday

RECOMMENDED NOT TO BUY A DSLR, WAIT TILL 2014.DSLR Cameras There's no shortage of digital camera deals around Black Friday, but premium current-generation cameras are just a few months away from being replaced by a new line of 2014 models. If you're eyeing a brand new digital SLR, we recommend waiting until after CES and into February for 2014 cameras to become "old," and thus receive aggressive discounts from retailers.

So, what DSLR's will Nikon be adding between now and February?

And what' the difference between a $800 D7000 this Friday and an $800 D7000 in February?

Hmmm... Maybe a D4S...?
Replacement for the D300S...?
New Nikon 1...?

Don't know.

However the difference between a D7000 purchased at $800 now... would mean in a few days you can be taking some awesome pictures for the holiday. Whereas you would need to wait until after Valentine's day... :( FTL

Be careful too with TV's. I know a few manufacturers produce "special" electronics specifically for black friday made with cheaper quality parts that they can discount heavily. Do the research!

This is the kind of logic that can make you perpetually nuts, because once the new cameras are announced you're now buying "old technology" and you start wondering if you should just wait and get one of those ... provided there are no early production issues as has been the case recently.

If you're in the market for a camera now then I think some of the deals I've seen are more than incentive enough to grab it now. If you're hemming and hawing then you either don't really need it and are just looking for justification for the purchase, or aren't ready anyway. There will always be a better buy down the road, but you'll also be that many months without the camera, so ask yourself if having the camera for the holidays and the time you'll be spending with it in the meantime is worth the money you may save 3-4 months from now?

x2 it's expensive to want to be the first on the block. If you can afford it, go for it.
I waited until a body was within my budget and pounced. No sense in waiting when you could be taking pictures with the gear you really want in the meantime :)

My situation warrants waiting until Spring to buy a new Nikon. I can't afford it right now! ;)
So I'm hoping for something new from Nikon before Spring to increase the number of offerings.

I would strongly urge anyone considering a purchase this year to buy the Nik collection, assuming you already have either PS or LR. Or if your loved ones ask you want you would like, tell them Nik (and/or LR + PS). Short of your camera and lenses, it will be the most important and useful photographic purchase you can make

Quoted for great truth... Dave_W twisted my arm the other day and next thing I knew I was downloading the Nik Collection. To say I'm blown away at how much you get for the investment would be a huge understatement; I'd say it's the next-best thing to having either Photoshop or Lightroom itself.

While still on the fence about the purchase I spent a few seconds on Google and found an online discount code that knocked $22 and change off the purchase price. That pretty much tipped the balance for me.

I spent thousands on software programs, I have just about every major photography software that exists, and my favorite are Photoshop, Lightroom, and the Nik Collection, in that order.

So you have all this software and do not have a single camera? There must be something I did get quite right...

I'm a Nikon newbie, but spent a great deal of my life (40+ years) as a professional photographer, using Canon gear. I guess you can say I'm a Nikon convert. I had to sell everything I own due to financial difficulties. But I'm slowly making a financial comeback.

Sorry about your difficulties. I hope you're finances get better soon so you can enjoy shooting with your Nikon.
