Hi everybody. Another Nikon friend and I are planning on going this year. We had planned to go last year, but it was cancelled due to snow. (Seems ironic that an event at Valley Forge would be cancelled for snow. . . ) Not sure if anyone else might be interested. Should be some interesting photo opportunities!

Park info: Valley Forge National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Dates: December 19, 2010
Times: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: Muhlenberg Brigade

Summary: Join us from 6pm-8pm for candle light tours, a "march" to up to the Muhlenberg Brigade huts, and good old fashioned 18th century festivities.

Fees: Free and Open to Public

Details: Join living history interpreters, park staff, and the Friends of Valley Forge Park from 6pm-8pm for candle light tours, a "march" to up to the Muhlenberg Brigade huts, and good old fashioned 18th century festivities. At the Muhlenberg huts park staff and volunteers in period clothing demonstrate camp life while the Colonial Revelers rejoice in the Visitor Center.

I can't wait to see the pictures, some day I'll get there & Gettsyburg too.
Though I read in an article of Military history that as bad as Valley Forge was the writter states that the next year at Morristown was even worse I will have to check that out, let me know if you want me to send you any info I find.

I'm excited. I've only lived in the area for 3 1/2 years and exploring the civil and revolutionary war sites has been fun.

Where I used to live in Brooklyn, NY, I used to go to the actual scene of the battle of Long Island. It's in Prospect Park, a half mile away from where I lived. The city never took care of the site. It was so bad they had to be shamed into cleaning it up.
One can only imagine how the spirits of the brave Americans that fought & died there for our independence must feel, forgotten & totally disrespected by NYC. I haven't been there in at least 30 years or more, I hope that when I do go back it'll be in better condition than I last saw it. A damn shame!!

Awesome... I live just up the road from Valley Forge. I'll likely be there this year.

There is also another event you might be interested in. Hope Lodge in Fort Washington is reenacting the Whitemarsh encampment and the Battle of Germantown TOMORROW Saturday 11/6 (errr... that's today already!) I'll be there, just look for a tall guy with a red camera backpack shooting a Nikon D7000 w/ a "SmugMug" strap.

Darn it! I wish I could change my plans. Instead I'll be in KoP at a training session. Please share your pics!

Wish I could!

I went to Gettysburg/Washington DC when I was younger, and it's always been on my list of places to re-visit. I still have all the photos I took from my 8th grade trip back in 1989 from a Kodak Disc camera...remember those?

Very much looking forward to your images, Eduard!

Hey Anthony: It is very overcast here today. Thinking of taking the seldom used third-hand 80-200 push-pull instead of the 70-300 VR. The bokeh is much better with the 80-200 so if I use the monopod, I should be good. Thoughts?

This picture is excellent, it shows some actual conditions the continental army suffered through in the extreme cold winter at Valley Forge.
