Yeah I've seen some of the recent discussions concerning renting software and personally I have not and will not rent software. If I can't own it I will use some other product and I that's the reason I asked because I think a lot of people think the way I do. I am possibly coming into a small bit of money and am wanting to invest and this seemed like a perfect situation. Got an email from Adorama and they are having a sale CS6 for $530 and it got me to thinking.

Save yourself some money and order the teacher/student version. It's exactly the same just cheaper. If you have a kid, grandkid, niece/nephew or even a next door neighbor, you qualify. My grandkids have a slew of various software items.....

As to your central question, yes, absolutely. CS6 is an awesome program.

All said and done, there is no program that works as well as CS6.
Granted GIMP is great & is open source and i support it fully and if push comes to shove i would rather use GIMP than pay a rent, BUT CS6 is really a fantastic program.
It will surely support all our photographic needs for at least a couple of years if not more.
For the lot of us (semi-pro & lower), it will definitely do everything you would need to still make eye popping images.

Go for the student version and hang on to it as it may be the last of a to be extinct species of digital software
