I have been kicking myself in the butt starting the day I got rid of my 500mm f/8 C Reflex Nikkor. The other day I was really wishing I had a long telephoto that focused closer than the beast. I picked up a used 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor, the updated version from the one I had for only about $300, a terrific bargain. It is in terrific shape and the focusing is buttery smooth. Some of the bird photos I have posted of late have been taken with this lens. As long as you are mindful of the background's specular highlights, it is impossible to tell from a conventional lens design. The only difference is it is about 1/5th the size and weight!

@hark. Thank you. My birthday is in November. I waited to order a lens on sale, and now, early Christmas, so I am hooked-up for the year, and hubby is off-the-hook for trying to get me anything. It is a win/win. Anniversary in May. I am thinking Macro lens.
