I just sent my Tamron 150-600mm G1 back to Tamron AGAIN for warranty service. So, I mean I had to have a long lens in the mean time, right? I picked up the newer Tammy 150-600mm G2 yesterday. I have only taken a few test shots, but can tell already that I am getting sharper shots than I have in a long time with the old Tammy. The VC (R) on this thing is pretty amazing. I have been able to get some clear shots at 600mm as slow as 1/30th. Anyway, here's the obligatory poor quality cell phone shot of the new lens. Now I gotta' sell a couple of things before the credit card payment is due. I bought new tires yesterday, too.

Sorry to hear about your problem Woody. Obviously the G1 Tamron 150-600 has real issues and hopefully the G2 will keep working.

I'm glad you found something that will work well for you, Woody. You used the previous Tamron zoom a lot. It had more reach than the 300mm f/4, and with VR, it was great for your wildlife images. The reviews of this newer version sound promising.

Within the past month, I decided to photograph a local lake but wanted to use a slow shutter speed to smooth out the water. In the back of the car, I carry an old and cheap Velbon. The problem is when I used it, it couldn't quite handle the weight of my gear. So I've been looking for an inexpensive tripod to keep in the car.

I asked one of our forum members who suggested this one. There is an extra $10 off if you click on the coupon (that would take the price down to $119.99 for a carbon fiber tripod). If you are considering a MeFoto Roadtrip or something similar, you might want to consider this one especially since it is carbon fiber. Here is an online review of some top travel tripods. This one is at the top of their list.

I wanted something a little taller so I opted for the 65" version. Wow, I am really impressed. For $134.99, it is a carbon fiber tripod with ball head and carrying case. The panning is very stiff which is my only gripe--and I'm hoping it will ease up with some use.

The taller one that I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Mono...ef=sr_1_5&th=1

I love my D7200 and also picked up a preowned Nikon grip for it. The lens sounds great although I've never tried it. An f/2.8 zoom is always an excellent choice. Is this yours...or hers?
