I'm pretty impressed with the sharpness and AF accuracy and speed. You have to twist the zoom ring a long ways to get from 100-400, which is a little annoying. It is pretty light, but it feeld very solid and appears to be buile quite well. I'll know more as I continue to shoot with it.
Thanks Woody, I will check out that thread. I have been impressed with the new 70-200 by Tamron for the speed and accuracy of focus. It is fast. I wondered if that might be the case of the 1000-400.

Dan, I don't have this lens, but I'm not sure if it comes with a hood and a tripod foot. It looks like the foot might be optional. Didn't see anything about a hood (just so you know in case you decide to try the lens). Woody, I love the images you get with it. In your own opinion, how would you rate its images compared with your Nikon 300mm f/4? I'm sure the Tamron is a little lighter, but since it has VC, do you find the images to be superior to the Nikon?

Looks interesting! So how heavy would you say it is in comparison to your Sigma 70-200 f/2.8?

Its a nearly 3kg lens compared to the 1.4kg of the 70-200 so it is a bit of a beast however its build quality is great. It is the same optics pretty much the same as the newer version.

I dont intend to use this off of a monopod much

Had bought as Apollo softbox by Westcott. It didn't last very long at all, snapped one of the bars. It is not repairable. Warranty required I mail it back to the USA - cost me less to buy a similar Godox softbox. Similar idea of the flash inside the umbrella style enclosure. Set it up and tried it out. Seems sturdier. Hope this one lasts.
