    Re: Post your latest purchases.

My wife wanted a better tripod go I bought me a new/used Manfrotto tripod and gave her my Dolica which she liked. She then wanted to keep the Dolica Pistol grip that was on it so I updated it by changing the plate to a Arca Swiss which that plate can live on her camera all the time. So easier for her to deal with.

So I have the Gimbal to go on my Manfrotto but needed something for when I am not using the long lens. Today I got

Manfrotto 3265 Grip Action Ball Head with Quick Release. I matches my tripod quite nicely

My B&H order arrived at the Co-Op today. (Ya know your in farm country when the courier pick up place is the local Co-Op farm supply co.)

Added a Westcott Apollo 28x28 softbox with grid to my collection.
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._Recessed.html
B&H had it on sale and are giving away a free grid (The sale is still on today I checked).
This is similar but different from my recent Neweer 2x2 grid box. The Apollo is 28" square - the Newer 24"
The Neweer is just one rebranding of this pop open 'tulip" style box. I think it is a Godox product - Godox rebrands all the time. Lastolite makes one but I think theirs is different - I'd hope so as they charge a lot more for it.

    Comparing these two:
The Apollo is umbrella style and needs a stand with umbrella hole gizmo whereas the Newer needs a speed ring.
The Neweer tilts easier - the Apollo has limited tilting unless you put it onto a boom arm.
I think it is easier to put multiple flash units inside the Apollo. The hole at the back of the Neweer box is designed for one speedlight. But I can get my big Godox 360 bare-bulb flash in it easily.

Westcott Apollo is 'brand name" whereas the Neweer is well 'Brand "X" model' I paid close to twice as much for the Apollo even on sale and that is just for the softbox, diffuser and grid (does not even include a bag) whereas the Neweer included a $25 "
S-Type Bracket' /speedring that I can use with any Bowens style modifier and carrying case. The bracket is mostly plastic but seems sturdy enough.

I bought two different mounting brackets. The big "T" "
Impact Adjustable Twin Shoe" that is shown first with one of the flashes mounted upside down.
But with the Godox triggers under my flashes they seem to come very close to the top of the box. At least with one up and one down the light is a bit more balanced.
Downside of the Twin Shoe is that it takes two receivers if you want remote control of the flash power. This is a big advantage if the flash is inside a box with a grid and diffuser panel.

    And I also bought a
Impact FA-300HS Triple-Flash Hot Shoe, this little gizmo has three hot shoes and allows one trigger to control all three.
Will post a separate story about curious issue with this unit. For the most part it worked better. One receiver can control three flashes inside the box - nice.

Okay just received my Nikon 200-500 lens. I too debated so I hope I don't get buyers remorse . Any way took it yesterday day while the wife and granddaughter made a snowman. Just AF on no VC as I am usually old school. The Snow man was shot at 1/500s f/7.1 ISO1000 270mm hand held. Now the other two for today was shot on a tripod with Beike BK-45 Gimbal the first one with high ISO and the later lower ISO with a 10 second delay. Now I'll have to wait for better weather to let it run through its paces.

You need to put a body cap on that camera before dust gets in.
