Well, it is only photography related in that I could have purchased a D5, and had enough left over to pay this month's credit card bill and still had change.

It's for my son, a junior in high school. He also plays piano, clarinet and the bagpipes. Suddenly, photography equipment takes a back seat!!

No, it won't do that. Next time, I'll look for that in the specifications to make sure I get the most for my money.

While in college, I had to learn all the instruments in a band and orchestra. When it came to woodwinds, I already knew how to play the flute/piccolo, but my least favorite woodwind to learn was the bassoon. For me, it definitely was the most difficult woodwind to play so all the more to your son.

And he plays the bagpipes?!! Wowzer! What a talented boy.

    Re: Post your latest purchases.

A couple months ago I purchased Vanguard AltaPro 264. Shortly after that I bought a Gimbal from @Bill16 at a good price. Love the Gimble and it works great with my Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 lens, but it is a bit to heavy for just photos with the camera and smaller lens. It works, but it is just a bit awkward. It is also a hassle to change back to the ball head because of the way the Gimble is mounted.

I got thinking about my dilemma and realized the tripod center column is removable. So I contacted Vanguard and asked if I could by an additional Center Column. They said sure... $20, which included freight, and they would set me up. I was talking to Bill about my plan and that I wished I had a better ball head to use. The one that came with the tripod is okay, but it slips. He happened to have a used ARCA Swiss B1 that he was willing to part with. So now I have one column with a Gimbal Head and another with a Ball Head, and I have to thank my good friend Bill for helping me out with the heads I needed to make for a sturdy setup.

Just made life a lot easier for me at what I feel is a fair price.

Thank you, Cindy. He is quite talented, as are my daughters, though they only play one or two instruments, each. My oldest daughter played the violin through high school, and dabbled in the clarinet, but really only so that she could march in the band in high school. My younger daughter, plays the trombone, having started in the fifth grade, and is now playing at the University of Florida in the marching band in the fall and one of their concert bands in the spring. She has a music minor with a specialty in traditional jazz/big band. She actually had the fortune to play with The Glenn Miller Orchestra (yes, it still exists) several years ago when they visited our town.

My son actually was steered into bassoon performance because he played the bagpipes, since they are both double reed instruments.

One of them wants to know what program you studied in college that required you to learn all of the instruments in band/orchestra.
