dreaded phone questions - making it better

im not daft to think that regardless of the processing power of the new smart phones they are going to come close to a proper body and lens, unlike 1 friend that sold his D7200 and D610 claiming his galaxy note pro was better but hey ho, but as i go out on my push bike and walks with dog i dont have time to or space to carry all the gear :(

heres the kicker the Iphone 11 pro max for a phone has a reasonable camera and the ad for it shows incredible shots - small print says taken using a camera app not the bogo one Apple bungs on the phone.

so i downloaded what they claim to be the best app - Halide and promptly removed it , its seemed properly clunky or am i missing something? plus £12 a year subscription seems steep.
then i tried VSCO and deleted that as well when its started to do stupid stuff, tried again and nope same issue - when using exposure it started to flick through the filters and having to come out the app and start again is just rubbish.

before i download any other app to try and make the phone a little better what am i missing with Halide or what do others use ?

TIA

I use Android so am not much of help for you, but my wife has an Iphone and she uses a few different apps. When she gets home I will ask what she uses. I do know the generic photo app for iphone is pretty good.

What do you use for Android? I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and use the camera app that came with it. It takes really good pics, even better when I remember to use the pro mode!

I am Android as well. I have a Samsung S7, but I do not use my phone as a camera unless it is something quick like a photo of a new piece of photography equipment. I just do not enjoy using my phone... especially since they made Snap Bridge so easy to use.

I download 2 MB JPGs directly to my phone on the fly as I am shooting. I do not have to think about it with the Z6. If I want to share it on Facebook it is simple. If I want to edit it I use LR on my phone, but most of the time straight out of the camera is fine for Facebook.

My D810 does not do this

Nikon makes WiFi adapters for some of their bodies that don't have built in WiFi although I don't know which one might support the D810. I think I tried out the built in WiFi on my D750 with the app Wireless Mobile Utility which came out before Snapbridge.

WMU allows me to transfer images from my D750 to my iPhone and also allows me to use the app as Live View thru my phone before firing the shutter thru the phone. Snapbridge isn't compatible with my D750 so I'm not sure about the differences between these two apps.

Yah, the 810 does not use Snap Bridge. I am not sure if the 810 has any Wi-Fi. Snap Bridge came out on the 500, 7500, 850, and all the Z bodies.
No Wifi on D810, I do connect up a Wifi transmitter via USB if I want to tether and control the camera remotely. But this is a bit bulky.
