I don't think that list is as much a reflection of technology as it is a reflection of price point.

That is what I was thinking. Price and entry level for people who are beginners. I'd like to see the list of the ones collecting dust after people realized that shooting takes some learning.

I watched one useless and incomprehensible YouTube video that screamed about the stupidity of the Z50 release, but within the same video he lamented all DX crop shooters who use FX glass because "you're wasting light" - his exact words, not mine. But outside of the who's saying there's no market?
Will we see another pro level DX? Probably not. But when you have 50-60MP mirrorless cameras cameras that can deliver 20MP's in cropped mode with the EVF cropping as well, you probably won't see another one. But a "market" is defined by what's available at what price point. I think Nikon would be utterly foolish to drop another 3xxx or 5xxx series camera, and I vaguely remember there being a rumor that this wouldn't happen. If they do another 7xxx camera it will probably parallel the D780 in that it'll be a D7500 with a Z50 sensor and mirrorless functions available in Live View - effectively a mirrorless for someone slow on the uptick or otherwise unwilling to make the change.
I saw a review of CES that spoke of the Canon 1Dx Mk iii as probably being the last major DSLR release you'll see by Canon and I believe it. Mirrorless tech is finally such that you don't need the optical viewfinder any more, and you are getting functionality you could never implement on a DSLR. Add to it that smartphone cameras are growing in leaps and bounds the market is going to squeeze into mirrorless-only over time when it comes to anything that you don't text your friends with.Jake

I agree with Jake. The days of the DLSR are at or near the end. Mirrorless is the camera of the future. Too bad Nikon had to cripple the Z50 by not including the in-body VR which means you will lose all VR capabilityes on all FX Z lenses. If Nikon had included the in-body VR in Z50, and seeing the images I see for this camera, I would be in the market for one. As it now stands, I will await an upgraded Z50, or a lower cost, non-crippled FX Z camera. Hope my wait will not be as in-vane as the wait for a D400 to replace my D200 was!

I'd like to see nikon test the waters with a higher pixel density Dx mirrorless, 32mp in the Z50 form with stabilization. With fast readout and processing capacity it could be a hit for wildlife shooters, I'd buy one. As it is the Z50 is a cute, fun little camera at a great price point. After handling one at bestbuy, I really wished they had released it in conjunction with the discontinuation of the Nikon 1 series; I think their market share would be much greater today.
