I think this is the camera to make me switch ... Sony A73

Yes the camera may be great. But you will have to invest in all new lenses or invest in a lens adapter and live with its bulk and issues.

That is a slight issue with moving over to another system, luckily I am able to switch my kit out for the Sony equivalent and whilst it will cost me, it wont be too much more.

Seeing the autofocus and the speed, it makes the Nikon's look archaic, and I love my D500 !

It's pretty tempting to switch. Sony makes some terrific stuff now. I have a couple of Sony cameras and a few budget lenses. They definitely do some things better than their competitors. For me they need to increase their market share a bit and grow their lens selection before I'd consider making a switch. My Nikon gear's potential is still limited by me the photographer... if that ever reversed, which I seriously doubt it would, then I'd consider switching for that reason as well.

Believe me, if I could convert for not too much money, I too would be temped. I think it is ridiculous of Nikon that I have (for my uses the best DX made, better than D500 or D7500) a 3 year old (which I have owned for 2 years) D7200 which is not even compatible with the latest P lenses.

Haha, wow, I never even knew of the P lenses until you brought it up. I need to get out more.

Come on you lot have a bit of faith in Nikon :encouragement: they may be late to the party but it could easy be worth waiting for.

Had the opportunity to switch to Canon, selling off and replacing as needed while borrowing a complete pro set indefinitely as I did. Couldn't justify it. Unless you're making your living off this stuff and can depreciate the equipment and write off replacement costs I just don't know that it's ever worth the cost of switching unless you just can't get what you need from what you have.

All that said, as you mention Sigma Art and the mounts that it supports, one of the reasons I love Sigma so much is that if you ever do decide to switch they offer free mount swapping on all their Art & Sport series lenses, so you keep your lenses. Not a bad deal.

Well, the release of Firmware V1.03 for D7200, moves the clock closer to midnight for me. Until Nikon fixes the D7200 p lens issue, I will not invest in anymore Nikon brand equipment!

Nikon is not stupid, but this P lens without a VR off/on switch is nuts and has to be costing them in selling new ones.
I like VR but keep it off unless needed.

I did not know about the free mount swap! I’m up to four ART lenses, so that’s good to know.

Yeah, I went back and checked on the "free" part and can confirm that the free part was announced in 2013 but what I'm finding now is that there may be a fee associated with it depending on the lens, and you need to pay to ship it to Japan. So it may take a bite out of your wallet but not nearly as much as the loss a replacement.

Biker...how do you like the sigma 150-600? Torn between that and the Nikon 200-500...

I like it a lot. Here is one example:

I considered the Nikon 200-500, but at the time I only had the D200 and the Nikon lens WAS NOT COMPATIBLE with this camera, so I got the Sigma lens instead. I have since upgraded to the D7200 and have not compliants with the Sigma lens. However, I am still very pissed that my 2 year old D7200 in not fully compatible with the P lenses without the VR switch, despite Nikon's promises to the contrary.

Thought I read this week that Nikon came out with a firmware update for the D7200 to add exactly that?

they fixed the focus lost on meter off but did not add a menu item to shut off VR

And, in the meantime Nikon has released software updates to make the D3300 and D5500 cameras (both introduced in 2013) fully P lens compatible. However, we are still waiting for the same update for the D7200 (introduced in 2015).
