I wonder how Nikon is doing profit wise

The diversity of C@non seems to help their bottom line. If Nikon had a constant downward trend in profits would that prompt anyone to jump ship?

I wish they would smartly diversify. However, I can't help but think of Cannondale Bicycles. They diversified out into making really awesome lightweight motorcycles and sunk the company not knowing when to stop pouring money into it. Eventually the owner lost the company.

The rumors are strong that this year will see Nikons entry (in a big way) into the mirrorless market, although not a Nikon user at the moment i think they have the ability to take this sector by storm.

I was watching the Japanese TV news this morning (which is presented in perfect English) and they had a news story headlining that upscale camera sales are on the increase in Japan, as amateur photographers are seeking more features than their cell phones offer. They showed a photography class sponsored by Olympus where people were schooled in light, composition and color while shooting fruit.

This might have no bearing on global sales, but it was nice to see amateur photographers investing in better equipment and in their education about photography.
