Ted's Miscellaneous Mirrorless Marauding

OK. I've taken a bite of the apple.

I wasn't ready to jump into the mirrorless pond, but it was a local deal I couldn't pass up.

A like-new NEX-F3 with the 18-55mm lens and SD card, in the box, for $200.

We'll see how I like it.

It will be replacing my LX7 as a take everywhere, keep-in-the-car camera. (I'm giving the LX7 to Bill to play with.)

Bigger ASP-C sensor, 50% more MP; but it doesn't have the Leica 1.4 lens of the LX7.

It's not the A7II that I'm really interested in, but like I said, it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

More to come later today.

Well, the camera is in excellent condition and could be new.

I took it to a huge mall, figuring lots of color and different scenes.

I know this camera is far from the top of the line and I wasn't expecting D800 results. And, my expectations were correct. I'm going to chaulk today's results up to my inexperience with the camera. With that said, I would describe everything so far as "noisy". I don't believe my smaller sensored LX7 would have been nearly as noisy. I'm going to read the manual any keep with this NEX. If it turns out to be a dud, I know I can get my 200 clams back on eBay. Here's the (for lack of a better term) results from today....

RETRACTION! RETRACTION!

It's funny how prejudices can play with your mind. I decided to take back-to-back, side-by-side, photos to prove the LX7 (with a fancy-schmancy Leica lens) took better photos than my new NEW mirrorless camera. Well, all I proved is that I'm a bad man. I pre-judged the Sony before I even gave it a chance. I'm sorry Sony. Can you forgive me?

sharpness to nex?

The NEX is obviously more vibrant in the colors and that gives an impression sharpness. At 100%, there's more noise with the LX7, but there should be when you consider the MPs and sensor. I'm not going to feed the LX7 to Bill, it will still serve a purpose. So far, I'm glad I got the NEX. The lens is the 18-55 and not the intitial 16-50 I had expected. I could get the 16-50, but I'm comparing reviews now, and the winner appears to be the 18-55 on this camera. I guess I got lucky.

The weight of the NEX-F3 doesn't seem to be any lighter than my D3300 with the 18-55. The NEX is definately lens heavy. I'd still choose the D3300 over the NEX for anything I want to look the best, but I'm very partial to that camera. Time will tell.

I'm sure the D3300 has grown with you (or on you).....just like me buying another D7100.....it had grown on me too. Both my Sony, being full frame, and my 7100 serve a purpose....I know what you mean.....but on your list aren't both of your cameras DX?

Sure, I understand. My D800 is FX. The D3300 is DX and the NEX is, for all intents and purposes, a DX camera too.

It was nice of Bill to let you borrow the LX7 for your test comparisons. Let's see some shots of her using it!!

Enjoy your new toy.
