I am looking for advice on the best lense to use, my son is very active in sports and I am the baseball teams coach/pitcure taker guy, not an official photographer one of my players pointed out.My son is 9 so there will be alot of pitcures taken. My camara is a D-90. Thanks for any help. Mark

Honestly dude, you probably already have the best lens. The best lens is the one you already have.
But all you have told us is that you have a D90. Reaching out on a limb here, you probably have a 35-80 vr lens that came with your camera.
But the most important piece of equipment you can get would be a... (wait for it)

A MONOPOD.

You are going to be taking a lot of pix. Most of them will be culls. How-ever, with a monopod to help steady the D90 those culls can become keepers.
Also, if you save the images at the LARGEST file size, you will be able to crop a boring picture into an exciting action shot.
I don't know what your budget is, but it is far better to sharpen your photographic skills rather than expand your gadget bag.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello, welcome to the Nikonites Community. I see you have a 80-200mm f/3.5 lens (VR?). You don't say if these sports activities are going to be indoor or outdoor. If out door will they be during the day or at night? Each situation requires a different shooting style. Nine year old baseball, if I remember my days shooting nine year olds trying to hit a baseball, it's mostly daytime and the f/3.5 lens should work fine. How much experience do you have using a digital camera like the D90? Give us a little more info. You may want to start a new thread under the D90 or General Photography Forum.

Welcome from Canada, the D90 is a great camera & the 80-200mm will get you up pretty close. Looking forward to seeing some of your posted Pics.
