Another late introduction

Since everyone is doing late introductions, I thought it was time for me to introduce myself also. Hi, I'm Marilynne. I'm almost a one month member.

I live in south FL, USA. I've been married for 38 years. I'll be retired for 2 years this Friday. I worked for Palm Beach County as a Analyst/Programmer for 25.5 years and the State of Florida with the DMV for 5 years. My husband and I are woodturners. I turn bottlestoppers and pens, he turns lots of other stuff (bowls, goblets, perfume bottles, mushrooms, etc).

The D5100 is my first SLR which I've had for 1 month today. My first Nikon is the Coolpix S3100 which I purchased in Feb. this year. My husband felt I was ready to upgrade to a SLR. I didn't think I was ready, but with your comments/likes to my photos I think he was correct (rare!).

Thanks for all of your help!!

Hi Marilynne

Had your camera about the same amount of time as me, I'm loving this photography business a lot.

Wish I had found it years ago..

Hi there.

Another penturner, or is it your husband that the makes pens ?

I make a few pens as well.

I made these pens. It's been about a year since I've turned anything. I stick to the tiny turnings, my husband does the big stuff. I'd like to see some of your work.

Hey, nice pens, good to meet another pen turner.
I used to turn bigger stuff like bowls etc. as well as making bigger stuff like tables and furniture, but I am so short on spare time these days, I have gotten more into pen turning, I like that I can just do a couple of steps each day, and before long I have a finished pen or 2.

I have just posted a couple of my pen pics in my welcome thread if you want to check them out.

I like your pens. I don't turn wood however I turn logs into wood that sometimes gets turned. I hope that Ironwood is following this thread as this next part is for him as well. I have seen a good many pens and other turned items on a site I am a member. The Forestry Forum. Don't let the name fool you as it isn't about just forestry. You never know where ideas will come from and I thought you might be interested.

Nice looking timber there Rancher, what sort of mill do you have ?

I have a chainsaw mill that I made myself, I have a few photos of it somewhere, I will post them soon.

Thanks for the tip on the Forest forum, I will check it out.

Ironwood, I have a Hudson band mill. The Forestry Forum is pretty extensive and worldwide. You should enjoy it.

Hi Rancher, a few of the Guys over here are starting to get into the band mills.
I just posted some pics of my homemade job over on Neals "Other Hobby" thread.
