Hi there....

I just saw Kamesh's thread, and thought I have done the same thing, so here goes.

My name is Brad, I am 48 years old, I live in Central Queensland, Australia.
I worked as a Diesel Fitter in the mining industry for about 26 years. I got very sick a few years ago ( cancer ) and almost died, this bought about the need for a change of pace and lifestyle.
My wife and I now own, and run, a retail business.
I had some 35mm Nikon gear ( Nikon FG, and a few Nikkor lenses ) when I was younger and backpacking around the world. This stuff got stolen in one of my travels. I bought a Ricoh fully manual SLR to finish my trip, it was pretty disappointing ( I still have it ).

I have a hobby of making pens, I am just starting to set up a website to help me sell them, and I needed a better camera than my Wifes Canon Ixus 750 P&S, so I got myself a Nikon D3100 with the twin lens kit.
I have also got a 2nd hand 55mm AF Micro Nikkor, that I hope to use for my pen photos.
While researching on the internet about lighting for light boxes and tents, I found this place, so here I am.

Thanks Joe.
From when I was diagnosed, until finally one of my Dr's told me he thought I had beaten it, was the lowest and darkest chapter of my life. I had 2 operations, one of them took 7 & 1/2 hours, then I had to have the treatments that seemed to go on and on. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

But hopefully all that is behind me now. So I can enjoy the rest of my life.

Welcome!, post some pen pics!

Thanks Rick. I will definitely post some of my pen pics.

I am still new here, and haven't really worked out what the go is with new threads. Do I start a new thread for my pen photos, and then just keep adding them in that same thread over time ? I would like to get feedback on them, so I can improve.
Or do I just start an album and put them in there ?
I see there are blogs, I have never had a blog, and I have never really looked at anyones blog before. Does anyone else follows any blogs ?

Oh, and the "Ironwood" tag, I am a member of a couple of woodworking forums. My member name is Ironwood on all of them, so I just carried it through to here. Easy for me to remember my name and password that way.

Thanks for the welcome Guys.

Since my passion for penmaking has bought me back to photography, I guess I should post a couple of pics of some recent pens.

Great pens. Yours are a different style than the ones I made. Do you turn any with the 30 caliber cartridge?
Thanks Marilynne. I do make bullet pens, here are a couple of pics ( not very good ones )
They are 30-06 cartridges with 30 caliber projectiles, all clear powder coated. The ones with cartridge tops are 308's, they use a Parker ballpoint refill.

These were all for one customer, he has since lost or given away all of these ones, and I then made him a few more, all of which he has lost also, I sold him another one 2 days ago, will see how long this one lasts.

WOW! OK, what is it with photography and Pen making?? :)

Welcome, Brad. I am blown away by your "penmanship"! OK, a little corny.

Really, I like them, especially the cartridge ones, they are amazing! Well done.

I am glad you like my pens. its been my main hobby for a few years now.
I bought a new Nikon to try and improve my pen photos, and I am enjoying using the camera so much, the pen making has taken a back seat ever since.

I have started a 365 thread for my pen pics here - http://nikonites.com/project-365-daily-photos/7645-ironwoods-pen-journey.html
