Hello all

Joined the other day. Was on Nikonians but don't think this a contest between the two sites. For me Nikonians seemed a bit too high end. My budget doesn't allow that :-(

Am a member on a couple of other forums/groups. Strobist, DPS, RSPB etc.

Excellent article on DPS the other day about a high end fashion shoot using an iPhone. Just to prove you don't HAVE to have the most expensive kit.

Cheers

Ian

Welcome, we had a "discussion" at Tech Collage last year about.... Photographers using phone cameras. Suffice to day, the teachers hated them, never wanted to see any student use one! They got quite passionate about it actually :)

I can understand that - If you're on a photography course you should be learning how to use a 'full blown' camera. You have very little control over a phone camera. I think the point the guy was making in the video was that you don't have to have the top end kit to get a good fashion shoot photo. Too many people get caught up in this 'Must have more pixels. Must have latest and most expensive model'. He freely admitted and demonstrated the use of professional lighting and the fact that the images went to a 'retouching house'. Not just him and a copy of Photoshop but a company specifically designed to retouch photos. Things like that could put your teachers out of a job ;-)

No, you should learn about the camera and light and composition.

Since joining groups like DPS (and now Nikonites) I have switched my camera away from Auto and take more care with composition and my photos are improving.

A bit like getting old - you tend to slow down and take a bit more time over things ;-)
