Hello from the Pacific NW

Well I just jumed in with question before I introduced myself. I am from the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Washington) which provides me with some great photo oppertunities. I love nature/animal shots as well as close up's. My 2 year old Golden Retriever is my main model. I have a D40X that I have had for about 5 years. My husband surprised me with a new D5100 for Christmas. Currently it's being repaired for a shutter problem. I have a lot to learn ( basic stuff really ). I look forward to learning. I also look forward to sharing my photo's with you all and getting feedback.

Welcome to the forum Toncatsgirl. I hope you've kept your D40 and can still use it while your 5100 is in the shop.

Enjoy your Nikons!

Oh yes Marcel I still I have my D40. It needs a good cleaning. Flour plus Nikon = Dirty! I forgot to mention I love baking and taking photo's of my cakes and breads someday maybe I'll start a blog. I am terriable at writing. Thanks for the welcome. Here is a recent wedding cake for friend. The flowers I made out of sugar. Becky and Haydens Cake 074 (416x450).jpg

Welcome to Nikonites, TCG. :) (I hate long names! LOL) Yeah, like Marcel said, keep shooting with your D40X......and don't sell it! Use it as a backup camera when you get your D5100 back. 5 years old and it still works great, right? D5100 brand new and in the shop already.hmmmmmm.....makes ya think, right? ;) Both my cameras are over 5 years old, and I've never had a problem with either of them. :)

Thanks for the kind welcome. Call me selfish but I was going to give my D40 to my niece. She is very good and has taken some really great shots. My son was away at school for awhile and he used it a bit and he wanted it. Well neither of them are getting it! I was really mad on vacation when my 5100 went out and I didn't "think" to bring my 40. Most of my vacation was shot on my I Phone. Better then nothing I guess. And yes I am disappointed that I have already had to send the camera in for repair but do understand that things happen and still love my camera. I should have it back in a week or so. My paper manuel will be here tomorrow and I bought 2 new books today. Lighting basics and a nice in depth book on the 5100. I am very interested in hdr but have a lot to learn before I get there. I'm excited to learn. Imagine if I had had my 5100 and proper settings:IMG_0321 (450x338).jpg
