Hi All,

I am a little late in coming to this forum as I have had my D700 for a couple of years now and still consider it to be a very fulfilling camera to use that produces amazing IQ.

I used Nikon analogues (F2 / F3 / F4's) for many years when working as a PJ and then did the cardinal sin and switched to Canon for my first Digital FF (5D), great camera but slow AF and did not feel solid so went back to Nikon and traded all Canon kit in and got D700 - no regrets.

I do admit to not using it as often as I should as I am using both a Fuji X100 & Panasonic GX1 kit for ease of carry and weight, both are good but for the ultimate quality nothing beats the D700.

I have fairly recently picked up the updated 24-120 f4 and it is an amazing lens that produces stunning IQ with a real 3D feel that I have not sen since my days of using Leica M's - great value for money and has now become my prime lens.

Welcome to this forum Ian, I fully agree with you about the quality and feel of pics made with the D700 and 24-120 f4 combination. It seems almost like magic like the leicas used to produce.

Enjoy your stay with us.

if you were a PJ in the old days did you know Bill Zygmant ?

That's a little like saying did you know Mr Jones who lives in Wales ;)

I worked for the US Government running a photo agency in West Berlin from 1980 - 1991 so covered a lot of exciting events including 3 x Presidential visits, I x spy exchange (Anatoly Sharansky in 1985) and the repatriation of a US Major who was shot by Soviet Forces (Made front cover of Newsweek with that image) and finished off my time covering the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany - a very exciting and varied photographic experience all crammed into 11yrs and non of it repeatable!
I stayed in photography on my return to UK and finally left the profession in 2001 - I now only do it as a hobby but carry the memories with me and have learn't a lot from the challenges.
I am now still enjoying my photography but only as a hobby.
